Senior Platform Engineer
Job description
About the role
You will own the implementation of technical initiatives that directly advance Bestow's platform scalability, reliability, and developer experience. You will independently execute scoped projects, automate infrastructure operations, and construct internal tools that empower product teams to move faster and safer. You will collaborate closely with platform engineers and cross-functional partners, applying your engineering judgment to deliver clean, maintainable, and production-grade solutions. As you grow into the role, you will take on ownership of more complex systems and begin influencing architectural decisions and team processes. This position is ideal for someone who thrives on solving problems through automation and wants to level up as a systems thinker. You will help reimagine a centuries-old industry by building the infrastructure that allows life insurers to launch products in weeks instead of years.
Key facts
What you'll do
Develop and maintain cloud infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or Pulumi to ensure repeatability, safety, and visibility.
Automate and monitor our Kubernetes-based platform and CI/CD pipelines to support rapid, reliable software delivery.
Build CLI tools, shared libraries, and scripts that accelerate development workflows and reduce manual effort across engineering teams.
Contribute to platform resilience by implementing dashboards, alerts, and runbooks for services owned by platform engineering.
Participate in incident response, performing root cause analysis, and driving follow-up improvements that prevent recurrence.
Propose and prototype changes that improve availability, scalability, and cost efficiency of our platform services.
Collaborate with product managers, designers, and cross-functional stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
Support developer productivity by improving build, test, and deploy loops to minimize friction and accelerate feedback.
Help define and enforce standards for service configuration, secrets management, and app-level observability across engineering teams.
Utilize AI agents such as Claude Code for engineering tasks, demonstrating the ability to direct agents through clear context, explicit constraints, and deliberate planning.
Work with containerization technologies including Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes to maintain robust production environments.
Engage in code reviews, contribute to version control workflows, and help uphold code quality standards across the engineering organization.
Take ownership of complex systems and evolve operational practices to support platform growth and long-term maintainability.
Drive automation initiatives that reduce manual toil and enable the broader product and engineering teams to operate more efficiently.
