Platform Engineer II
Job description
About the role
At Bestow, life insurance is recognized as one of the world's most critical products, yet it remains one of the most complex to build, distribute, and modernize. The company exists to transform this reality by unifying a fragmented, legacy value chain and enabling carriers to launch products in weeks instead of years. Bestow provides the infrastructure that allows large and innovative life insurers to scale, operate at unprecedented speed, and deliver on their promise, powered by AI and automation. This role is central to that mission. As a Platform Engineer II, you will own the design and execution of cloud infrastructure as code across the entire platform, ensuring every change is reviewed, tested, and deployed through robust CI pipelines. You will define and implement technical designs for critical platform components, working independently with minimal supervision while collaborating closely with product engineering teams. Your work will directly shape how life insurers bring products to market, turning decades-long processes into weeks-long workflows. You will automate and administer the core systems that power Bestow, including Kubernetes, Pulumi Cloud, ArgoCD, CircleCI, and PostgreSQL, contributing solutions in languages such as TypeScript, Python, Go, or Bash to solve complex infrastructure and automation challenges. If you want to help reimagine a centuries-old industry with lasting impact, this is your role.
Key facts
What you'll do
Your primary responsibility is to automate cloud infrastructure using tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi, ensuring all modifications go through code review and are executed via CI tools. You will administer Bestow's software platform, which includes Kubernetes, Pulumi Cloud, ArgoCD, CircleCI, and PostgreSQL, and you will contribute to projects using languages such as TypeScript, Python, Go, or Bash. You will evaluate, design, and implement solutions for continuous integration, continuous delivery, and DevOps productivity, with a focus on treating all cloud infrastructure as code. You will ensure the reliability, security, maintainability, and extensibility of the platform by collaborating with product engineers to identify observability and configurability gaps and implementing code-level improvements. In addition, you will create tooling to improve the developer experience, enabling faster and more effective delivery of business value, manage runbooks for incident response, measure operational performance, and drive gradual improvements. You will participate in a primary on-call rotation to maintain system reliability, respond to platform incidents, and perform blameless root-cause analysis.
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you must demonstrate proficiency with GCP or other cloud platforms, as this is required for effective execution of infrastructure responsibilities. Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi is mandatory, given that all infrastructure changes are treated as code. Familiarity with AI-powered coding assistants or agents, such as Claude Code, is required to enhance productivity and streamline development workflows. Strong scripting skills in languages such as Python, Bash, or similar are essential for automating processes and solving complex problems. You must have familiarity with Typescript, Go, or similar languages, as well as experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or CircleCI, which are central to deployment and release strategies. Understanding of containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes is required to administer platform components, and experience with version control tools like git and GitHub is mandatory. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills are essential for evaluating, designing, and implementing solutions, and strong communication and collaboration abilities are required to work effectively with product engineering teams. Bestow uses E-Verify to confirm the employment eligibility of all newly hired employees, and U.S. employment authorization is required because Bestow is not able to sponsor applicants for work authorization at this time. You must reside in one of the 48 contiguous United States. To learn more about E-Verify, including your rights and responsibilities, please visit E-Verify.gov http://e-verify.gov.
