About the role
You will own the end to end recruitment lifecycle for critical engineering positions that directly support the mission of building Benchling as the AI platform for biotech R&D. You will design and execute sourcing strategies that uncover passive candidates who can thrive in a data driven, AI fluent environment. This role requires you to act as a strategic partner to engineering leaders, shaping target candidate profiles and aligning hiring plans with business objectives. You will manage the full recruiting lifecycle, from initial outreach and thorough screening through negotiation and offer execution. You will leverage data and metrics to continuously refine the process and improve key hiring indicators. This position is embedded within a team that is building the future of scientific discovery, where your work will directly influence the pace at which breakthrough R&D is delivered. You will be expected to integrate AI tools and workflows into your own recruiting practice, demonstrating how technology can enhance efficiency and candidate experience. As part of the interview process for this role, you will complete an AI focused exercise or discussion to evaluate your approach to using these tools.

What you'll do
- Manage end to end recruitment for software engineering and product roles, ensuring a steady pipeline of qualified candidates.
- Conduct in depth interviews to assess technical capability, motivation, and alignment with the company's AI first approach to science.
- Partner with hiring managers to translate business needs into clear position strategies and target candidate profiles.
- Source candidates across multiple channels, including passive networks, professional communities, and niche technical platforms.
- Develop and implement assessment plans that effectively evaluate problem solving skills, technical aptitude, and collaborative mindset.
- Monitor recruitment metrics and key performance indicators to identify bottlenecks and drive improvements in time to hire.
- Design and deliver compelling offer packages, providing guidance and recommendations that help secure top talent.
- Act as the primary point of contact for candidates, ensuring a transparent and respectful recruitment process.
- Collaborate with cross functional teams to refine interview workflows and standardize best practices.
- Evaluate emerging sourcing tools and technologies to enhance the efficiency and reach of your sourcing activities.
- Build and maintain relationships with engineering leaders to understand long term hiring needs and anticipate future requirements.
- Analyze hiring trends and pipeline health to proactively address gaps and adjust strategies accordingly.
- Support diversity and inclusion initiatives by sourcing from a broad range of backgrounds and perspectives.
- Provide regular updates and insights to stakeholders regarding recruitment progress and market conditions.
- Contribute to the development of job descriptions that accurately reflect the evolving needs of the engineering organization.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3+ years of Technical Recruiting experience with a track record of recruiting and scaling high performing Software Engineering and or Product organizations.
- Demonstrate excellence and passion for each step of the recruiting process and the overall candidate experience.
- Experience recruiting for specialist and generalist roles sourced through a variety of channels.
- Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong time management, prioritization, and results driven mentality.
- Ability to work in a hybrid office environment, with a commitment to being on site 4 days per week Monday through Thursday.
- Familiarity with AI tools and platforms and an interest in how they can enhance technical workflows.
- Willingness to participate in an AI focused exercise or discussion as part of the interview process.
- Comfort working with structured scientific data and the intersection of data and AI in a biotech context.
Practical notes
This is a 6 month contract role based in San Francisco, California. The position requires in office availability, with the expectation that you will be present at the San Francisco office 4 days per week from Monday through Thursday. The hourly compensation for this role ranges from $60 to $75, reflecting market based pay considerations related to skills, experience, and location. In office perks include access to a wide variety of snacks and catered lunch during workdays. The role is open to eligible candidates who can meet the stated schedule and contractual terms.
