What you'll do
- Spearhead the technical design and development of systems such as the Lab Notebook, structured data input solutions, and enterprise lifecycle management tools.
- Architect and implement robust solutions for intricate challenges, including comprehensive audit trails, review workflows, scalable export functionalities, and document lifecycle oversight.
- Oversee extensive, multi-quarter projects, translating broad requirements into precise technical roadmaps and iterative deliverables.
- Make informed strategic technical choices, weighing existing platform capabilities against technical debt while ensuring future flexibility.
- Shape engineering practices and elevate quality benchmarks across the Applications division.
- Offer technical mentorship through code reviews, architectural guidance, and support for engineers at various experience levels.
- Collaborate closely with product management, design, and other teams to convert customer and regulatory requirements into actionable technical solutions.
- Explore and implement AI and large language models (LLMs) to improve data capture, audit reporting, and compliance workflows.
- Ensure the effective integration of horizontal systems that support product development across the organization.
- Oversee the complete lifecycle of key features, from initial planning and development through to deployment, maintenance, and monitoring, while also contributing to engineering processes and recruitment efforts.
Requirements
- A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in software engineering, demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility and impact.
- Proven experience in leading the technical components of significant projects involving multiple engineers over extended timeframes.
- Strong foundation in developing backend systems and APIs for cloud-based web applications, with the capability to work across the full stack.
- A history of designing scalable and reliable architectures for horizontal systems utilized by various teams.
- A demonstrated ability to independently define and drive initiatives that affect multiple teams or an entire product area.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for articulating technical designs and influencing implementation strategies.
- A commitment to mentoring engineers and enhancing team standards in areas such as testing, performance, and maintainability.
- A strong desire to learn about the life sciences sector; prior experience in biotechnology is advantageous, but enthusiasm is crucial.

- Familiarity with audit, compliance, or software that adheres to GxP regulations.
Skills & tools
- Proficiency in React for frontend development.
- Expertise in Python for backend programming.
- Experience with PostgreSQL for data modeling.
