About the role
Benchling is transforming biotech R&D by integrating structured data and AI into scientific workflows. As a Solution Consultant, you will act as the primary technical lead for our largest enterprise customers, bridging the gap between complex laboratory requirements and our software platform. You will work alongside sales and product teams to design and present high-impact solutions for global biopharma organizations. In this capacity, you will own the technical narrative of our value proposition, ensuring that customer hypotheses are addressed through precise software mapping. You will be responsible for de-risking adoption by articulating how Benchling solves specific operational challenges in regulated environments. Furthermore, you will leverage deep domain expertise to translate ambiguous scientific questions into coherent digital strategies. Ultimately, your work will directly influence how customers conceptualize and execute their R&D transformation journeys.

What you'll do
- Collaborate with account executives and leadership to develop deal strategies and comprehensive customer engagement plans that align commercial objectives with technical feasibility.
- Lead discovery sessions to identify specific business needs, technical requirements, and decision criteria, documenting findings in a structured format for solution design.
- Architect solutions that align Benchling features with customer scientific data models and existing IT infrastructure, ensuring scalability and compliance.
- Deliver persuasive product demonstrations that address customer objections and highlight competitive advantages through scenario-based storytelling.
- Provide feedback to product management to help shape the platform roadmap based on market trends, customer insights, and emerging use cases.
- Create internal training materials and mentor peers to improve collective team expertise, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous learning.
- Partner with implementation teams to ensure smooth onboarding and configuration, translating architectural designs into actionable setup tasks.
- Evaluate new integrations and data standards to maintain interoperability with laboratory instruments, databases, and analytical tools.
- Support proof-of-concept initiatives that validate solution hypotheses and quantify potential return on investment for stakeholders.
- Represent customer perspectives in internal workshops, ensuring that product evolution reflects real-world scientific and operational constraints.
- Conduct gap analyses between current workflows and platform capabilities, prioritizing enhancements that unlock greater value.
- Facilitate cross-functional alignment between commercial, technical, and scientific stakeholders throughout the sales cycle.
- Track and document competitive positioning, using insights to refine messaging and objection handling frameworks.
- Engage in continuous learning of biopharma development processes to maintain relevance in highly specialized solutioning scenarios.
Requirements
- Master degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Chemistry, or a related life science field, ensuring a deep understanding of the domains served.
- Minimum of 4 years of professional experience, preferably in a customer-facing capacity, demonstrating consistent engagement with complex stakeholders.
- Hands-on experience in antibody discovery and engineering, either in a laboratory setting or a technical role supporting biologics teams, with concrete familiarity with workflows and data types.
- Ability to model scientific data and translate research processes into software solutions, including the conceptual mapping of experiments to digital representations.
- Fluency in English, both written and verbal, to enable clear communication with international client teams and technical documentation.
- Willingness to travel to customer sites for 25 to 30 percent of the time, requiring adaptability to varying schedules and global time zones.
- Strong analytical mindset capable of dissecting intricate scientific problems and identifying software-driven pathways for resolution.
- Demonstrated experience working in regulated environments, understanding the importance of data integrity, audit trails, and compliance considerations.
Nice to have
- Experience with scientific informatics software such as ELN or LIMS, providing insight into how legacy systems support modern informatics strategies.
- Familiarity with antibody engineering software, including platforms used for clone selection, sequence analysis, or potency modeling.
- Previous experience demonstrating scientific software in a pre-sales environment, showcasing comfort with live configuration and scenario-based selling.
- Fluency in German or French, enabling deeper rapport with local stakeholders and facilitating discussions in native language contexts.
