Technical Sourcer
Job description
Technical Sourcer at Beacon Software.
About the role
Beacon Software acquires and grows vertical market software companies across North America. We move fast, run lean, and hold our teams to a high bar. We are looking for a Technical Sourcer who thrives on the hunt - someone who can build deep, high-quality pipelines of engineering and product talent before a req even opens, and who brings both craft and creativity to outreach. This role sits at the top of the funnel and owns it completely. You will partner closely with our recruiters and hiring managers to translate role profiles into targeted sourcing strategies, and you will be the reason Beacon's pipelines are never empty. You will build and maintain proactive talent pipelines for engineering and product roles across Beacon's portfolio, with a focus on Toronto, San Francisco, and New York markets. You will develop and execute multi-channel sourcing strategies using LinkedIn Recruiter, GitHub, niche communities, referral networks, and AI-assisted tools. You will write sharp, personalized outreach that earns replies from passive candidates who aren't looking, and represents Beacon well in every touchpoint. You will partner with the recruiting team on role calibration: understanding what "good" looks like for each search and filtering accordingly before names hit the recruiter's desk. You will track sourcing metrics and iterate including open rates, response rates, pipeline conversion - and use the data to sharpen your approach. You will maintain clean, accurate candidate records in Ashby and ensure pipeline visibility across active searches. You will stay current on the competitive landscape: who's hiring, who's laying off, where senior engineers are moving, and what messaging is cutting through the noise.
What you'll do
- Build and maintain proactive talent pipelines for engineering and product roles across Beacon's portfolio, with a focus on Toronto, San Francisco, and New York markets.
- Develop and execute multi-channel sourcing strategies using LinkedIn Recruiter, GitHub, niche communities, referral networks, and AI-assisted tools.
- Write sharp, personalized outreach that earns replies from passive candidates who aren't looking, and represents Beacon well in every touchpoint.
- Partner with the recruiting team on role calibration: understanding what "good" looks like for each search and filtering accordingly before names hit the recruiter's desk.
- Track sourcing metrics and iterate including open rates, response rates, pipeline conversion - and use the data to sharpen your approach.
- Maintain clean, accurate candidate records in Ashby and ensure pipeline visibility across active searches.
- Stay current on the competitive landscape: who's hiring, who's laying off, where senior engineers are moving, and what messaging is cutting through the noise.
- Conduct ongoing research to identify target companies and individuals that align with Beacon's investment thesis and technical needs.
- Design and test new sourcing channels and workflows to keep our pipelines full and our methods ahead of the curve.
- Collaborate with hiring managers to prioritize roles and adjust strategies based on feedback and hiring outcomes.
- Provide constructive feedback on job descriptions and market positioning to improve hiring team effectiveness.
- Own the end-to-end sourcer workflow from initial research to candidate qualification and handoff.
- Mentor junior sourcers on best practices for technical outreach and pipeline building when appropriate.
- Continuously experiment with new messaging, sequencing, and tools to improve response and conversion rates.
Requirements
- 2-5 years of experience in technical sourcing or recruiting, with a clear focus on engineering talent.
- Hands-on proficiency with LinkedIn Recruiter; experience with AI sourcing tools, familiarity with GitHub, advanced Boolean search knowledge, and sourcing across communities and forums.
- Comfort engaging technical candidates: you don't need to be an engineer, but you can hold a credible conversation pitching Beacon roles, get candidates excited, and have strong intuition for what "good to great" is.
- Strong written communication; your outreach is specific, human, and doesn't read like a template.
- Detail-oriented and self-directed; you manage your own pipeline hygiene, flag blockers early, and don't need hand-holding to stay organized.
- Familiarity with ATS or sourcing platforms; a mix of Ashby, Greenhouse, Gem and JuiceBox preferred.
- Bachelor's degree required.
Nice to have
- Experience sourcing Product Managers in addition to engineering talent.
- Agency background - you know how to move fast and deliver volume without sacrificing quality.
- A developing network in the Toronto, SF, or NYC tech ecosystems.
- Experience using AI tools to accelerate sourcing workflows (research, personalization, pipeline mapping).
