About the role
In this role, you will be instrumental in establishing the foundational data architecture that supports our financial operations. Your primary focus will be on building a centralized financial data warehouse and a reporting cube that organizes financial transactions into clear and actionable business dimensions. This position is crucial for ensuring that the finance team has dependable, self-service access to precise data, thereby removing any analytical bottlenecks that may hinder decision-making. You will own the logic and definitions that power our financial reporting, acting as the critical link between raw transactional data and strategic insight. The success of this role is measured by the reliability and clarity of the financial narratives you enable through robust data structures. You will work closely with finance stakeholders to translate high-level objectives into concrete data requirements and technical specifications. Your work will directly influence how the finance function operates, scales, and provides value to the broader business.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Architect the financial data warehouse schema, defining tables, keys, and relationships to support accurate reporting.
- Develop and maintain the semantic layer and reporting cube, ensuring consistent metrics and dimensions for financial analysis.
- Engineer robust data pipelines to extract, transform, and load ERP data, focusing on reliability and performance in production environments.
- Implement financial reporting platforms, integrating data warehouse capabilities with semantic models for end-user consumption.
- Lead the design of facts, dimensions, and hierarchies to reflect accounting principles such as debits, credits, and the chart of accounts.
- Partner with finance teams to interpret close calendars and reporting requirements, converting them into technical data models.
- Ensure data integrity by validating that figures reconcile with the general ledger and treating discrepancies as critical defects requiring immediate resolution.
- Take full ownership of analytics projects, driving them from initial scope definition through deployment and post-launch optimization.
- Contribute to the growth of the finance function by documenting processes, establishing best practices, and mentoring stakeholders.
- Leverage AI agents as primary data consumers, designing data structures that optimize for AI-driven consumption and efficiency.
- Communicate complex financial data in clear, straightforward terms to non-technical stakeholders, emphasizing validated results over intricate diagrams.
- Utilize data visualization tools to enhance reporting capabilities and present insights that drive actionable decisions.
- Adapt quickly to a startup environment, managing shifting priorities and taking on diverse responsibilities as needed.
- Apply knowledge of regulatory compliance and financial reporting standards relevant to the energy sector to guide data strategy.
- Implement data governance practices to ensure quality, security, and consistency across financial systems.
Requirements
- A minimum of 3 to 7 years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or business intelligence development.
- Demonstrated history of successfully implementing a data warehouse and semantic layer in a production environment.
- Advanced expertise in SQL, including writing complex queries, joins, aggregations, and window functions.
- Strong understanding of dimensional modeling concepts, including facts, dimensions, and hierarchies.
- Essential pipeline skills for effective ERP data movement and integration.
- Solid grasp of accounting principles, including the chart of accounts, debits and credits, and close calendars.
- A strong commitment to data integrity, reconciling figures with the general ledger and addressing discrepancies as critical defects.
- An entrepreneurial mindset, taking ownership of projects from initial scope to deployment while contributing to the finance function's growth.
