About the role
Base Power is building a distributed battery network to reshape how electricity is generated and delivered across the country. They are looking for a Systems Integration Engineer to help design and connect residential battery storage, inverter, and microgrid interconnect device hardware. This position demands solid electrical engineering knowledge and direct experience working with energy storage equipment on a daily basis. You will help create hardware systems that are safe, dependable, and ready to scale for homes and communities everywhere.

What you'll do
- Design and build battery management systems for residential energy storage and power delivery applications in real-world settings.
- Integrate inverter and microgrid interconnect device hardware into complete, functioning energy systems that serve homeowners reliably.
- Create and update system architecture along with detailed electrical schematics for multi-component power generation and storage setups.
- Perform thorough testing, validation, and troubleshooting on fully integrated hardware assemblies and individual subsystems before deployment.
- Work closely with software teams to align hardware and software integration efforts and ensure smooth communication between components.
- Help develop control algorithms that govern energy storage behavior, charge cycling, and power conversion processes for residential use.
- Guide products through regulatory compliance and certification processes to meet established industry standards and safety requirements.
- Support the creation of safe and reliable power systems that deliver consistent performance for residential end users.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to resolve integration challenges that arise across multiple hardware subsystems.
- Document system designs, test results, and integration procedures thoroughly for future reference and team handoff purposes.
- Evaluate new components and technologies that could improve the performance and reliability of existing energy storage systems.
- Coordinate with manufacturing and operations teams to ensure designs are producible and meet quality benchmarks consistently.
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor or Master degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related technical field from an accredited institution.
- Bring three or more years of hands-on hardware development experience in energy storage systems or power electronics specifically.
- Understand circuit analysis, analog and digital electronics, and high-voltage design principles along with practical implementation approaches.
- Know how DC-DC and DC-AC converters, inverters, and grid-tie systems are designed, modeled, and operated in the field.
- Have hands-on familiarity with Li-ion and LiFePO4 battery technologies and battery management system design and tuning.
- Write embedded code in C, C++, and Python languages for hardware control, monitoring, and device communication tasks.
- Work with CAN and Modbus communication protocols in embedded systems and multi-device networked environments regularly.
- Apply knowledge of electromagnetics, thermodynamics, and measurement principles drawn from a strong physics foundation and background.
Nice to have
- Hold or be eligible to obtain a Professional Engineer license in your state of residence or practice.
- Understand residential energy codes and how smart home devices integrate with larger power distribution and storage systems.
- Have prior experience with product certification and regulatory approval workflows for hardware products in the energy sector.
- Know how to navigate UL 1741, IEEE 1547, and NEC compliance requirements confidently and accurately.
- Be familiar with residential energy markets and the ways homeowners interact with battery storage and solar systems.
Skills & tools
- Use Altium Designer or KiCad for printed circuit board layout, schematic capture, and detailed design work efficiently.
- Run circuit simulations in LTSpice or MATLAB and Simulink modeling environments to validate designs before physical prototyping.
- Operate test equipment including oscilloscopes and power analyzers for hardware validation, characterization, and performance measurement tasks.
- Program embedded systems using C, C++, and Python languages for control logic, data acquisition, and device monitoring.
- Implement CAN and Modbus communication protocols in multi-device and distributed system architectures for reliable data exchange.
- Apply knowledge of power electronics including switching power supplies, DC-AC conversion, and grid-tie inverter designs and configurations.
- Develop and maintain test plans and validation procedures to verify hardware meets functional and safety specifications.
