What you'll do

Design and deliver high-quality courses in algorithms, data structures, and computational theory at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
Develop innovative teaching methods and materials that enhance student learning and engagement in computational concepts.
Supervise and mentor students in their academic projects, ensuring they gain practical experience in applying algorithms to solve complex problems.
Conduct original research in the field of algorithms and computation, with a focus on areas that align with Ashesi's mission and vision.
Collaborate with faculty members across disciplines to integrate computational thinking into various academic programs.
Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to the continuous improvement of the curriculum and academic standards.
Engage with the broader academic community through conferences, workshops, and publications to disseminate research findings and best practices.
Provide academic advising to students, helping them navigate their educational paths and career aspirations.
Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages diversity of thought and promotes critical thinking skills.
Contribute to university service activities, such as committee work and outreach programs, to enhance the overall student experience at Ashesi.
Stay updated on the latest developments in algorithms and computation, incorporating new knowledge into teaching and research initiatives.
Collaborate with industry partners to create opportunities for students to work on real-world projects and internships that apply computational theories.

Requirements

A Ph.D. in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field with a focus on algorithms and computation.
A strong record of teaching experience at the university level, demonstrating effective pedagogical skills and student engagement.
Proven research experience in algorithms, data structures, or related areas, with a track record of publications in reputable journals or conferences.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex concepts in an accessible manner.
A commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse learning environment that supports all students.
Experience with curriculum development and the ability to design courses that meet the needs of a diverse student body.

Nice to have

Familiarity with programming languages commonly used in algorithm development, such as Python, Java, or C++.
Experience in interdisciplinary teaching or research that integrates computational methods with other fields.
Participation in community outreach or educational initiatives that promote STEM education, particularly in underrepresented communities.

Skills & tools

Proficiency in algorithm design and analysis, with a solid understanding of computational complexity theory.
Familiarity with software development tools and environments that support algorithm implementation and testing.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to approach challenges creatively and collaboratively.
Knowledge of current trends and advancements in computer science education and research methodologies.
