Staff Software Engineer, Energy Analytics
Job description
About the role
Staff Software Engineer, Energy Analytics
Arcadia builds the intelligence layer that modern enterprises need to manage energy operations at scale. Teams rely on our platform to unify data, automate billing workflows, and connect analytics with procurement and sustainability initiatives. We serve organizations that manage complex energy portfolios and need decisions grounded in clear economics.
This role sits within the Energy Analytics group, where the focus is on electricity cost modeling and battery performance simulation. The work determines the financial case for distributed energy resources such as solar and storage. Engineers define calculations and optimizations against data that can be irregular and ambiguous. The solutions power economic insights that demonstrate clean technology as the most pragmatic choice for climate and cost goals.
You will join a collaborative environment that values structured exploration and precision. The position requires ownership of modules shaped through conversations with domain experts. You will translate ambiguous requirements into stable designs and implementation plans. Your work will be reviewed by peers with an emphasis on maintainability, clarity, and performance. You will also contribute to engineering standards that improve how the squad delivers software.
This is a fully remote position within a distributed team. You will coordinate across time zones and align with colleagues who have varied schedules. The role interfaces directly with platform and product groups. Your contributions will feed into the broader Arcadia data ecosystem.
What You Will Do
You will design data ingestion layers that normalize utility records from many formats into reliable structures. These layers feed downstream systems that depend on consistent and timely information. You will build dbt pipelines that model electricity costs and battery behavior across the United States. The outputs support decisions about energy investments and operational strategies.
You will translate product requirements and expert guidance into technical specifications. The work involves close coordination with subject matter experts to capture nuances and edge cases. You will define API contracts that balance flexibility with performance. Peer design reviews will examine your proposals for correctness, scalability, and clarity.
You will contribute to standards that improve squad effectiveness. This includes practices around data quality, testing strategies, and deployment pipelines. You will advocate for approaches that make operations predictable and observable. Your influence will raise the level of engineering rigor across the organization.
You will guide the responsible use of strategic AI methods in forecasting and optimization. This involves implementing language models and related techniques in ways that enhance decision support. You will focus on reliability, transparency, and measurable value in model outcomes.
Qualifications
You hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline. Your education has given you the tools to manage complexity in software systems. You bring six or more years of professional development experience in SaaS or technology driven companies. Your background includes building and maintaining high volume REST APIs.
You write Python and enterprise Java on a regular basis. You use Spring or Spring Boot to create robust backend services. You have constructed SQL data pipelines in Snowflake and dbt to power accurate simulations. You deploy applications on AWS or comparable platforms with attention to reliability and security.
You have implemented strategic AI capabilities by adopting and scaling LLM driven solutions. You understand the practical considerations around responsible use. You have a track record of influencing organizational outcomes through communication and execution. You apply data science techniques in Python using Jupyter, Pandas, and related tools to solve difficult problems. You work with NoSQL stores such as MongoDB to handle document oriented data.
Preferred Experience
You have designed, operated, and troubleshooted large web API systems where metrics reach very high levels. You understand what it means to own systems that serve millions or billions of requests. You bring experience from the energy or similar regulated industries. That background shapes how you interpret rules, requirements, and constraints.
You operate containerized services on Kubernetes using tools such as Argo for orchestration. You write front end code in React to connect analytical insights directly with user interfaces. You care about how technology serves business stakeholders.
