Key facts
What you'll do
- Assist in the daily operation and maintenance of all machinery and equipment on board, including engines, generators, and auxiliary systems.
- Monitor and record performance data of machinery to ensure efficient operation and identify potential issues.
- Participate in regular inspections and maintenance schedules to uphold safety standards and compliance with maritime regulations.
- Support the 2nd Engineer in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical and electrical systems as needed.
- Maintain accurate logs of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections for reporting purposes.
- Collaborate with the engineering team to implement preventive maintenance strategies to minimize downtime.
- Ensure that all safety protocols are followed during maintenance and operational activities to protect crew and vessel integrity.
- Assist in the management of fuel and lubrication systems, ensuring proper levels and quality are maintained.
- Participate in emergency drills and training sessions to prepare for potential onboard emergencies.
- Contribute to the development of engineering documentation and manuals to support operational efficiency.
- Engage in continuous learning and professional development opportunities to enhance your engineering skills.
- Foster a positive and collaborative working environment among the engineering team and other departments.
Requirements
- A valid engineering degree or diploma from a recognized maritime institution.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in marine engineering or a related field, preferably on commercial vessels.
- Familiarity with marine engineering systems, including propulsion, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations and best practices in the maritime industry.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and communicate clearly with colleagues.
- Proficiency in using engineering tools and software for diagnostics and maintenance.
- Willingness to work on a rotational schedule, including extended periods at sea.
Nice to have
- Experience with specific types of vessels, such as luxury yachts or expedition ships.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and sustainability practices in maritime operations.
- Certification in safety training, such as STCW or similar qualifications.
- Familiarity with modern ship management software and systems.
