Appian Corporation is hiring a Senior Technical Product Manager to lead the development and delivery of its low-code automation platform. What you'll do
Define and communicate the product vision for Appian's automation platform features and capabilities.
Gather and prioritize requirements from customers, partners, and internal stakeholders across global teams.
Collaborate with engineering leads to translate business needs into technical specifications and detailed user stories.
Own the product roadmap for assigned domains, ensuring alignment with company-wide strategic goals and milestones.
Conduct market and competitive analysis to identify emerging trends that shape product direction and positioning.
Lead cross-functional planning sessions, including sprint reviews, retrospectives, and release planning meetings with engineering.
Define success metrics and key performance indicators to measure the impact of each product launch.
Partner with quality assurance teams to ensure delivered features meet defined acceptance criteria and standards.
Represent the product in customer-facing forums, webinars, and industry events when the situation demands it.
Maintain detailed product documentation including PRDs, user stories, acceptance test plans, and feature briefs.
Drive customer discovery efforts through interviews, surveys, and usage data analysis to inform roadmap decisions.
Coordinate with marketing and sales teams to ensure product messaging aligns with actual capabilities delivered.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical discipline is required for this position.
Seven or more years of experience in product management within a software or technology company setting.
Demonstrated experience managing the full product lifecycle from initial ideation through launch and ongoing iteration.
Strong understanding of low-code platforms, workflow automation, or business process management technologies and their ecosystems.
Proven ability to work effectively with engineering teams in an agile development environment and cadence.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present clearly to diverse audiences.
Experience working in a globally distributed team with cross-cultural collaboration expectations and norms.
Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and consistent quality output.
A track record of shipping products or features that have measurably improved customer satisfaction or retention.
Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to make informed decisions with incomplete information available.
Nice to have
Experience with enterprise-grade SaaS products serving large commercial or government customers in regulated industries.
Familiarity with process mining, robotic process automation, or artificial intelligence integration in product contexts.
Prior experience mentoring junior product managers or leading cross-functional product teams directly and effectively.
Knowledge of data modeling, API design, or integration architecture patterns in distributed and scalable systems.
Skills & tools
Proficiency in product management frameworks such as RICE scoring, MoSCoW prioritization, and user story mapping.
Experience with project management tools like Jira, Confluence, or similar collaboration platforms used daily.
Ability to create wireframes, mockups, or prototypes using tools such as Figma or Balsamiq for validation.
Familiarity with SQL and data analysis to interpret product usage trends and performance metrics accurately.
Understanding of version control systems and software development workflows commonly followed in agile settings.
Comfort with presentation and documentation tools including PowerPoint, Google Workspace, and Markdown for team sharing.
Practical notes
This role is based in Appian's Chennai office and requires on-site presence during standard business hours.
