What you'll do
- Develop and implement web-based applications on the Appian platform to help clients achieve their digital transformation goals.
- Collaborate with the customer success team and clients to analyze their business strategies and design essential workflows that meet their needs.
- Apply analytical skills to evaluate existing business processes and leverage technology to create efficient solutions.
- Assist in creating change management materials to facilitate user adoption of new digital tools and workflows.
- Engage daily with colleagues and mentors, contributing to team projects and sharing insights in a collaborative environment.
- Support the gathering of client requirements and translate these into technical specifications for application development.
- Participate in testing and debugging activities to ensure the functionality, quality, and performance of applications.
- Contribute to documentation efforts, including technical designs, user guides, and project progress reports.
- Learn and apply the features and best practices of the Appian platform during project development cycles.
- Attend team meetings, training sessions, and workshops to enhance your technical knowledge and professional skills.
- Assist in preparing presentations and demonstrations for clients to showcase developed solutions.
- Support the team in identifying opportunities for process improvements and automation within client organizations.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Systems Engineering, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related STEM discipline, with a strong academic record.
- Must be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in technology, business processes, or digital transformation initiatives.
- Candidates must plan to return to school after the internship to continue their studies.
- Able to commit to a full-time schedule (40 hours per week) for the entire 10-week duration of the internship.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex business challenges.
- Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly.
- Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills, with a willingness to learn from others.
- Basic understanding of web development, databases, or programming is a plus but not required.
- Self-motivated and proactive attitude, with a desire to develop new skills and knowledge.
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
- Attention to detail and organizational skills to manage project documentation and deliverables.
Nice to have
- Experience working with relational databases such as Oracle or SQL.
- Familiarity with cloud computing platforms and related technologies.
- Knowledge of artificial intelligence, large language models, or AI tools, and their potential applications in workflows.
- Prior internship experience in a technical, consulting, or business environment.

Practical notes
At this time, Appian will not sponsor employment authorization for this position. Applications will be reviewed and interviews scheduled starting August 2026. The hourly wage for this internship is $35.00, which totals approximately $6,066.67 per month based on a 40-hour workweek. Compensation and benefits are subject to change according to applicable plans and policies. This internship is conducted on-site at the McLean, Virginia office, and candidates must be able to work in this location for the duration of the program.
