What you'll do
- Conduct detailed surveys of mining sites to gather data on land features, elevations, and boundaries, ensuring compliance with legal and safety standards.
- Utilize advanced surveying equipment and software to produce accurate maps and plans that guide mining operations.
- Collaborate closely with geologists, engineers, and project managers to interpret survey data and provide insights that influence project planning and execution.
- Monitor and maintain survey control points throughout the mining process to ensure ongoing accuracy and reliability of data.
- Prepare comprehensive reports and documentation that detail survey findings, methodologies, and recommendations for operational improvements.
- Participate in the development and implementation of surveying protocols and best practices to enhance efficiency and safety in the field.
- Assist in the training and mentoring of junior surveyors and field technicians, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
- Conduct regular inspections of mining sites to assess compliance with environmental regulations and safety standards, providing recommendations for corrective actions as needed.
- Engage with local communities and stakeholders to address any concerns related to surveying activities and promote transparency in operations.
- Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in surveying technology, integrating new tools and techniques into daily operations to improve accuracy and efficiency.
- Collaborate with the health and safety team to ensure that all surveying activities are conducted in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Support the preparation of budgets and resource allocation for surveying projects, ensuring that all activities are completed within financial constraints.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in mine surveying or a similar role within the mining industry.
- Proficiency in using surveying instruments such as total stations, GPS, and laser scanning equipment.
- Strong knowledge of surveying software, including AutoCAD, Surpac, or similar applications.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets.
- Familiarity with local mining regulations and environmental standards in Ivory Coast.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to travel to various mining sites as required.
- Valid driver's license and the ability to operate a vehicle in compliance with local regulations.
Nice to have
- Professional certification or membership in a recognized surveying organization.
- Experience with drone surveying technology and photogrammetry.
- Knowledge of geological principles and mining methods.
- Fluency in French, in addition to English, to facilitate communication with local teams and stakeholders.
- Previous experience working in West Africa or similar regions.
