The Embedded Engineer, Automation Department will serve as the critical link between firmware intent and physical hardware validation within a leading European security technology organization. This role owns the design and execution of rigorous validation procedures that confirm every device meets exact electrical and functional standards before mass production begins. You will translate ambiguous manufacturing requirements into precise, repeatable test sequences that align tightly with partner timelines and release gates. The position focuses on driving the robotic production lines and testing frameworks that validate connected safety devices at one of the world's largest deployments. You will ensure that test environments accurately mirror the electrical and protocol requirements of the device under test through meticulous signal mapping. Collaboration with firmware teams is constant, requiring coordination of test plans to synchronize with product roadmaps and integration windows. Ultimately, you will maintain the traceability and compliance that allows hardware to move confidently from the factory floor to the field.

What you'll do
- Design the intake procedures for new hardware boards, establishing the initial signal mapping in coordination with manufacturing engineering to ensure test accuracy.
- Implement low-level control scripts using Embedded C and Python 3 to drive automated test fixtures, activating relays and reading sensor states with precision.
- Analyze firmware logs and trace data to verify that communication protocols and safety standards are met without deviation prior to release.
- Own the creation of validation packages that define pass criteria and edge cases, serving as the contractual agreement between test and manufacturing.
- Coordinate test plans with firmware teams to align with the product roadmap, ensuring test development keeps pace with firmware updates and revisions.
- Automate regression suites that run directly within the production environment, providing immediate feedback on line health and sensor function.
- Instrument diagnostics for field units, refining error handling within communication layers to ensure data returned is clean and actionable.
- Maintain traceability matrices that link high-level requirements, test procedures, and test results to guarantee full auditability and compliance.
- Adapt test checks to accommodate variations in hardware revisions and manufacturing tolerances while maintaining the integrity of validation goals.
- Capture waveforms and parse complex log files generated by production firmware to identify anomalies in sensor and controller behavior.
- Verify that response times and electrical specifications meet strict thresholds, ensuring that hardware behaves consistently under automated test cycles.
- Support the deployment of secure update mechanisms by validating bootloader verification and secure boot processes within test environments.
- Ensure that field data integrity is upheld by refining communication layers to eliminate noise and improve reliability of diagnostic returns.
- Continuously prioritize multiple test tracks to meet strict manufacturing deadlines without compromising the depth of validation required.
- Contribute to the improvement of robotic production lines by identifying test failures that indicate hardware or process deviations.
- Document edge cases and pass criteria for every batch of hardware produced, creating a clear audit trail for compliance teams.
- Collaborate with operations personnel to resolve test infrastructure issues, minimizing downtime and maximizing line throughput.
Requirements
- Possess hands-on experience with Embedded C, specifically within resource-constrained environments common to testing hardware.
- Have written code that interfaces directly with hardware registers and manages low-level peripherals in previous professional settings.
- Be proficient in Python 3 for automation, using scripts to control test instruments and capture waveform data.
- Understand the cadence and structure of production testing cycles, including the constraints of factory floor environments.
- Demonstrate adaptability to modify test checks in response to variations in hardware revisions and manufacturing tolerances.
- Communicate effectively with operations personnel and cross-functional partners to align on testing priorities and deadlines.
- Manage multiple test tracks simultaneously, balancing workload to meet strict manufacturing deadlines without delays.
- Maintain strict attention to detail to ensure that validation documentation, traceability matrices, and test procedures are error-free.
