About the role
Airship is on the lookout for a skilled Infrastructure Engineering Manager to oversee a dedicated team focused on our cloud infrastructure, development processes, and monitoring systems. This role is not just about leadership; it also involves hands-on technical contributions to infrastructure strategy and execution. You will lead a team of five engineers based in the United States and France, ensuring that both operational excellence and team development are prioritized.

- Lead and inspire a team of infrastructure engineers, providing mentorship and guidance to enhance their skills and career growth.
- Establish a supportive and productive work environment by offering constructive feedback and clear direction.
- Identify, plan, and execute infrastructure projects that meet both company objectives and customer requirements.
- Engage in the recruitment process by crafting effective hiring strategies and participating in interviews to attract top talent.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product management, and security, to ensure alignment on projects and initiatives.
- Contribute to company-wide projects and initiatives, providing infrastructure expertise as needed.
- Oversee the maintenance and enhancement of our cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
- Lead efforts to improve CI/CD pipelines, enhancing observability and automation within our processes.
- Assess and integrate new tools and practices that can enhance our infrastructure capabilities.
- Champion initiatives focused on cost efficiency, security measures, disaster recovery planning, and compliance with industry standards.
- Manage and respond to critical incidents, ensuring swift resolution and minimal disruption to services.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in backend or infrastructure engineering roles, demonstrating a solid technical foundation.
- A minimum of 2 years in a managerial or mentorship capacity, showcasing your ability to lead and develop engineering talent.
- Proven project management skills, with a track record of successfully guiding projects from initial concept through to completion.
- Exceptional English communication skills are essential for effective collaboration with leadership and team members based in the US.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms is required, with a strong preference for experience in Google Cloud Platform (GCP), although experience with AWS will also be considered.
- Candidates must reside within the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT) in the United States to facilitate collaboration with the team.
Nice to have
- Hands-on experience with Terraform or similar Infrastructure as Code tools is a plus.
- Knowledge of container orchestration technologies, particularly Docker and Kubernetes, will be beneficial.
- Familiarity with CI/CD systems such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or Spinnaker is advantageous.
- Proficiency in programming languages like Python, Go, or Java for automation and tooling development is desirable.
- Understanding of security best practices, networking fundamentals, and incident management processes will be beneficial.

Practical notes
- Compensation for this role ranges from $150,000 to $180,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
- The position includes stock options as part of the overall compensation package.
- Some travel may be required, up to 10%, depending on business needs.
