In this pivotal position, you will lead a dedicated team focused on the proactive identification and mitigation of fraudulent activities and abuse on Airbnb's global platform. Your primary responsibilities will include devising strategies to counteract emerging threats, establishing robust defenses, and enhancing the overall trust and resilience of the marketplace. Your contributions will play a crucial role in minimizing fraud-related losses and anticipating potential risks to the platform.

What you'll do

• Lead and mentor a specialized team tasked with analyzing extensive fraud data, implementing platform-wide controls, and establishing rules and policies to combat fraud effectively.
• Perform strategic analyses of fraud trends and patterns to guide data-driven decision-making processes.
• Collaborate with various teams, including data, product, trust & safety, legal, and policy, to create and implement innovative fraud countermeasures.
• Prepare and present detailed investigative reports and fraud intelligence summaries to leadership and cross-functional partners, ensuring clear communication of findings.
• Serve as the incident commander during critical situations to uphold platform integrity and ensure community safety.
• Identify opportunities for automation to enhance detection processes, thereby reducing manual efforts and increasing efficiency.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders to facilitate a collaborative approach to fraud prevention.
• Monitor industry trends and emerging threats to continuously adapt and improve fraud prevention strategies.
• Conduct training sessions for team members to enhance their skills in fraud detection and analysis.
• Evaluate and refine existing fraud detection tools and methodologies to ensure they remain effective against evolving threats.
• Engage with external partners and industry experts to share insights and best practices in fraud prevention.
• Contribute to the development of a culture of accountability and transparency within the team, ensuring that all members understand their roles in fraud prevention.

Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of leadership experience in fraud intelligence, risk analytics, or related fields, such as financial crime or marketplace fraud.
• Proven ability to link trend-level insights to larger fraud patterns and systemic risks, showcasing a strategic mindset.
• Advanced skills in SQL and Python for comprehensive data analysis and manipulation.
• Experience in creating dashboards and visualizations to present data effectively.
• In-depth knowledge of various fraud typologies, including Account Takeover (ATO), scams, and behavioral analysis.
• Expertise in designing and implementing risk controls to mitigate fraud effectively.
• Strong writing skills, with a proven ability to produce clear and structured investigative reports suitable for executive audiences.
• A demonstrated history of building and leading high-performing teams, promoting clarity and accountability among team members.
• Experience working collaboratively with international and cross-functional partners to enhance policies, processes, and technologies related to fraud prevention.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with cyber risk frameworks, digital forensics, and platform security measures.
• Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CHFI, CEH, GIAC, CFE, or Security+.
• Experience in the travel or hospitality industry, providing insight into sector-specific fraud challenges.

Skills & tools

• Proficient in SQL for data querying and analysis.
• Proficient in Python for data manipulation and analysis.
• Familiarity with Tableau for data visualization and dashboard creation.
• Proficient in presentation tools such as Slides for effective communication.

Practical notes

• This position is eligible for remote work within the United States, but candidates must reside in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity. Excluded states include Alaska, Mississippi, and North Dakota, with this list subject to change.
