Senior Electronics Engineer
Job description
About the role
This position is responsible for defining and delivering the electronics architecture for robotic systems. The hire will scope electrical requirements, validate system performance, and ensure production readiness while supporting product development from concept through deployment in a regulated environment. You will own the critical electrical decisions that translate product concepts into reliable hardware solutions. Success in this role requires a balance of deep technical execution and clear communication to align cross-functional partners. You will work within agile frameworks, iterating in small batches and reviewing your work with peers to maintain high quality. The role values engineers who can explain technical decisions in plain words to bridge gaps between disciplines. You will play a key part in ensuring that hardware, firmware, and integration teams operate from a single, unambiguous source of truth.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Define the electrical architecture and component strategy for robotic platforms, ensuring that performance, safety, and regulatory targets are met for current and future products.
- Develop schematics, selection documentation, and test procedures from system requirements so that hardware, firmware, and integration teams can execute with clarity and consistency.
- Measure and analyze prototype performance to verify functional specifications and quality standards in coordination with cross-functional teams.
- Record designs, processes, and decisions to support compliance, manufacturing handoff, and long-term maintainability across the product lifecycle.
- Align with software, mechanical, and product teams on interfaces, timing, and reliability goals throughout development and validation.
- Interpret system-level requirements into detailed electrical specifications that guide implementation and verification activities.
- Support debugging and root cause analysis for field and laboratory issues to drive corrective actions and prevent recurrence.
- Evaluate emerging components and tools to improve design efficiency, test coverage, and production feasibility.
- Partner with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are testable, assembleable, and robust at scale.
- Contribute to the creation and maintenance of standards, templates, and documentation that enable scalable and repeatable development.
- Collaborate with suppliers to resolve component shortages, quality issues, and lifecycle risks in alignment with program timelines.
- Assist in defining test strategies and validation plans that reflect real-world conditions and regulatory expectations.
- Mentor junior engineers on best practices for design reviews, documentation, and system integration.
- Participate in code reviews and technical discussions where hardware and software interfaces are involved.
- Drive traceability from requirements to verification results to demonstrate compliance with internal and external standards.
Requirements
- Hold a degree in electrical engineering, electronics, or a related technical field as the baseline for professional practice in this role.
- Demonstrate proven ability to design, test, and debug complex electronic systems in robotics or related automation environments.
- Demonstrate knowledge of power systems, signal integrity, sensors, and actuation as applied to electromechanical products.
- Convey technical decisions to diverse stakeholders with disciplined documentation and communication skills.
- Experience working in regulated environments where documentation, traceability, and compliance are mandatory.
- Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams under tight reliability and schedule constraints.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to translate ambiguous requirements into concrete technical tasks.
- Willingness to follow and contribute to engineering processes that support quality, auditability, and continuous improvement.
Practical notes
This role requires on-site presence in Munich as needed, and may involve limited travel within Europe for validation and collaboration. Typical interview steps
Hiring for engineering roles usually starts with a recruiter screen, followed by one or two technical rounds. Candidates often solve a coding problem, discuss past projects, and answer system design questions. Some loops include a take-home task. Final rounds typically cover team fit and give candidates a chance to ask questions. Interviewers look for how you break down an unfamiliar problem, not just whether you reach the answer. Practicing a few problems aloud and reviewing your own past projects are the best preparation.
Good to know
Electronics engineers in robotics work with schematics, sensors, and embedded hardware under tight reliability constraints. The field relies on measurement tools, simulation, and close coordination with software and mechanical teams. Roles in regulated environments emphasize documentation, traceability, and compliance.
Questions to ask
Worth asking in any interview: how the team measures success, who the role works with daily, what the onboarding looks like, and what the company is trying to achieve this year. Asking what past hires did well is a strong final question. Keep the list short and pick the questions that matter most to you.
Career growth
Engineering careers usually progress from individual contributor to senior, staff, and principal levels. Some engineers move into management and lead teams of five to twenty people. Others stay on the technical track. Growth follows demonstrated impact, not tenure alone. A typical engineering ladder has clear levels with defined expectations for scope, quality, and mentorship. Moving up usually requires owning outcomes end to end rather than completing assigned tickets.
