Senior Financial Data Analyst
Job description
About the role
Insights guide commercial decisions within Adyen's global financial technology platform. In this capacity, you own the transformation of complex financial information into clear narratives that stakeholders use to steer the business. You examine raw payment and revenue data to uncover patterns in transaction outcomes and operational performance. Your work in structured reporting turns these examinations into narratives that commercial leaders can act upon immediately. You build and maintain data models that standardize payment metrics so the organization can compare performance consistently. You partner closely with commercial teams to ensure that every dashboard and metric directly supports their strategic objectives. Your analyses will reveal where payment performance can be improved and where risks may emerge in the revenue flow. You are expected to question assumptions, validate data quality, and present findings that balance technical accuracy with business relevance.
Key facts
What you'll do
Databases and operational systems supply raw payment and revenue information, which examination reveals to track outcomes and performance. You construct queries that isolate specific transaction flows and anomalies, enabling the team to monitor key performance indicators in near real time. Structured reports then communicate transaction flows to commercial stakeholders so they can assess payment performance and adjust tactics accordingly. You design and assemble data models that organize payment operations information to derive consistent metrics that support decision contexts across the business. You lead the validation of these models, ensuring that definitions remain stable and that metrics are reproducible across different analyses. You translate ambiguous business questions into precise analytical problems, defining the necessary data scope and logic without direct prescription. You develop dashboards that visualize transaction flows, risk indicators, and commercial health, focusing on clarity over complexity. You document your methodologies so that colleagues can understand, challenge, and extend your work as the business evolves. You participate in data reviews with regional teams, using your analyses to support decisions about payment performance and commercial strategy.
Requirements
A degree is required for this position. Candidates must be eligible for sponsorship. The role is based in Amsterdam and may include travel within the region for data reviews. You must demonstrate proficiency in querying relational databases to extract, transform, and validate data. You should be able to interpret statistical concepts and apply them to examine transaction patterns and performance outcomes. Strong attention to detail is required to ensure that financial metrics remain accurate across multiple data sources. You must communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, avoiding jargon while preserving precision. You are comfortable working with incomplete information and documenting assumptions so that conclusions remain transparent. You understand that financial data is sensitive and you handle payment information in accordance with internal policies and regulations.
Practical notes
The role sits within the Commercial team. Typical interview steps
Data interviews commonly include a SQL or coding exercise, a statistics question, and a case study. Candidates may be asked to design a metric, interpret an experiment, or build a small model. Some companies give a take-home analysis. Expect questions about past projects and the business impact of your work. Interviewers often evaluate how you communicate uncertainty and business impact, not only the math. Bringing a clean write-up of a past analysis to the interview is well received.
Good to know
Continuous learning is essential in this field due to rapid changes in data tools and methods.
Questions to ask
Good questions to ask the employer in the interview: what does success look like in the first six months, how is the team structured, what is the current biggest challenge, and how are decisions made. Asking about growth paths and the review process is also well received. Employers expect questions, and good ones show preparation.
Career growth
Data careers grow toward senior analyst, staff data scientist, or data engineering lead. Many professionals specialize in machine learning, analytics, or infrastructure. Cross-functional work with product and engineering teams becomes more important at senior levels. The field changes quickly, so continuous learning is part of the job. Professionals who can translate numbers into decisions tend to advance fastest.
