About the role

You will own the design and implementation of generative AI applications that convert complex legal and financial documents into structured, reliable data. In this role, you will lead the development of systems that process bond offering memoranda, credit agreements, indentures, and court filings to extract precise financial and legal information. You will drive the end-to-end model lifecycle, ensuring reproducible research, rigorous validation, and robust deployment of high-precision extraction models. You will collaborate cross-functionally with domain experts to translate ambiguous business problems into well-scoped technical bets in a fast-paced, startup-style environment. You will advance state-of-the-art approaches to document understanding, retrieval, and context engineering for long-form legal text. You will be a proactive sharer of compelling ideas and work, helping to lead and push the adoption of AI across 9fin. Possess deep experience working with complex legal and financial documents, including bond offering memoranda, credit agreements, indentures, court filings, and related transaction documentation.

Expertise in extracting structured data from long, complex documents, including financial terms, covenant provisions, definitions, parties, dates, thresholds, baskets, ratios, and transaction mechanics.

Requirements

This role will be a great fit if you have deep experience working with complex legal and financial documents such as bond offering memoranda, credit agreements, indentures, court filings, and related transaction documentation.

You have expertise in extracting structured data from long, complex documents, including financial terms, covenant provisions, definitions, parties, dates, thresholds, baskets, ratios, and transaction mechanics.

You possess a strong understanding of document structure, section hierarchy, cross-references, defined terms, tables, exhibits, and other patterns common in legal and financial documentation.

You have experience applying large language models to high-precision extraction tasks, including schema-driven extraction, citation grounding, validation, and confidence scoring.

You are able to design review, verification, and reconciliation workflows that ensure extracted data is accurate, consistent, and auditable.

You have experience building labelled datasets, annotation frameworks, synthetic data generation, and evaluation sets for document extraction tasks.

You have a strong understanding of chunking, document segmentation, retrieval, and context construction for long-document reasoning and extraction workflows.

You have familiarity with leveraged finance, debt capital markets, credit agreements, covenant packages, bond documentation, restructuring processes, and related legal concepts.

You are able to build and operate extraction pipelines, evaluation systems, model-serving infrastructure, and monitoring for production AI workflows.

You have strong proficiency in Python for production-ready delivery and experience working in the full model lifecycle, including experimentation, training, testing, monitoring, and deployment.

You are data centric and love evaluating models, running experiments, and using data to drive decisions.

You have a strong product focus with a desire to understand the end-user experience and translate user needs into technical requirements.

You communicate clearly and effectively, both in writing and verbally, and you enjoy collaborating closely with cross-functional partners.

You are comfortable operating in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where priorities can shift quickly and where you are expected to take initiative.

You are able to translate ambiguous problems into well-scoped technical bets and deliver high-quality results under tight timelines.
