What you'll do

• Manage and maintain Windows and Linux server environments, ensuring optimal performance and security.
• Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues, implementing solutions to enhance reliability and efficiency.
• Collaborate with network engineers to design and implement network configurations that support organizational needs.
• Conduct regular system backups and disaster recovery operations to safeguard data integrity.
• Ensure compliance with security policies and procedures, conducting audits and assessments as necessary.
• Develop and maintain documentation for system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
• Provide technical support to end-users, resolving issues related to hardware, software, and network connectivity.
• Participate in the planning and execution of system upgrades and migrations, minimizing downtime and disruption.
• Work closely with project managers to support the deployment of new applications and services.
• Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to recommend improvements to existing systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in systems administration, with a focus on secure environments.
• Proven expertise in managing Windows and Linux operating systems.
• Strong understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP.
• Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V.
• Familiarity with security frameworks and best practices, including NIST and CIS benchmarks.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.

Nice to have

• Certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, or Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA).
• Experience with automation tools like Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
• Knowledge of cloud computing platforms, particularly AWS or Azure.
• Familiarity with scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, or Bash.
• Previous experience in a government or defense contracting environment.
• Understanding of DevOps practices and tools.

Skills & tools

• Proficient in Windows Server, Linux distributions (e.g., Ubuntu, CentOS), and Active Directory.

• Experience with backup solutions like Veeam or Commvault.
• Knowledge of firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
• Proficient in using ticketing systems for issue tracking and resolution.
