What you'll do

Design and develop new features for the Zuora billing platform using modern programming paradigms and architectural patterns.

Write clean and maintainable code that adheres to established software engineering best practices and internal coding standards.

Collaborate with product managers and designers to translate complex business requirements into detailed technical specifications and implementations.

Participate in thorough code reviews to ensure code quality and share valuable knowledge with fellow engineering team members.

Troubleshoot and resolve production issues by analyzing system logs and application performance metrics to find root causes quickly.

Architect and implement scalable microservices that can handle high transaction volumes and complex billing logic with ease.

Write comprehensive unit and integration tests to verify software functionality and prevent future regressions across the codebase.

Contribute to the continuous integration and deployment pipelines to automate the software release process and improve velocity.

Mentor junior engineers by providing guidance and constructive feedback on their code and overall technical approach and growth.

Evaluate emerging technologies and tools to determine their potential value for improving development workflows and team productivity.

Lead architectural discussions to evaluate tradeoffs and ensure the long term maintainability of the overall system design.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field from an accredited university or equivalent practical experience.

Proven experience of three to five years in software development using object oriented programming languages and frameworks.

Strong understanding of core data structures and algorithms and their practical application in solving complex computational problems.

Experience working with relational databases and writing efficient SQL queries for data retrieval and complex manipulation tasks.

Familiarity with cloud computing platforms and containerization technologies for deploying distributed applications at scale in production.

Ability to work effectively in an agile environment and adapt quickly to changing priorities and shifting requirements.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with diverse technical and non technical stakeholders across organizations.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks and deliver high quality work within strict deadlines consistently.

Experience with distributed systems and understanding of network protocols and fault tolerance in large scale environments.

Strong problem solving skills and the ability to think critically when faced with ambiguous technical challenges daily.

Nice to have

Prior experience with subscription billing and revenue recognition systems in a professional enterprise software environment is valuable.

Knowledge of RESTful API design principles and microservices architecture patterns for building distributed and resilient systems.

Exposure to DevOps practices including infrastructure as code and automated testing frameworks for continuous delivery pipelines.

Familiarity with agile project management tools and version control systems for collaborative coding and efficient team workflows.

Experience with messaging queues and event driven architectures to decouple services and improve system responsiveness overall.

Skills & tools

Proficiency in Java or Python for building scalable and reliable backend services that handle high traffic loads.

Experience with Spring Boot framework for developing enterprise grade applications efficiently and with minimal configuration overhead.

Working knowledge of PostgreSQL or MySQL for managing relational data stores and ensuring data integrity always.

Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes for container orchestration and deployment management in cloud native environments.

Understanding of REST APIs and JSON for communication between different software components and external integrations.

Comfort with Git for source code management and collaborative version control workflows across distributed engineering teams.

Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools to track application health and diagnose performance bottlenecks proactively.
