About the role
Zscaler is seeking a technical leader to guide engineering efforts within our Zero Trust for Cloud department. You will manage a local team in Bangalore while contributing to global strategy for cloud security, microsegmentation, and traffic management. In this capacity, you will serve as a bridge between regional execution and global architectural vision, ensuring alignment with enterprise objectives. You will own the delivery of critical security services that underpin the Zscaler platform and define the operational standards for the India engineering hub. Your decisions will directly influence the reliability and scalability of our cloud-native security stack. You will mentor engineers to elevate technical excellence across the lifecycle of our products. This role requires a balance of hands-on technical contribution and strategic people leadership. You will drive continuous improvement in engineering practices while maintaining a sharp focus on customer security outcomes.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Oversee the full lifecycle of development, testing, deployment, and monitoring for Cloud Connector, ZT Gateway, and Microsegmentation services.
- Act as a key member of the global ZTC leadership team while managing the local India-based engineering group.
- Coordinate with cross-functional partners to navigate shifting priorities and maintain project timelines.
- Provide hands-on technical guidance, including code reviews and mentorship, to scale team impact.
- Address technical escalations and participate in beta trials to ensure high-quality product delivery.
- Define and enforce engineering standards for cloud networking, security policy, and service reliability.
- Collaborate with product managers and architects to translate business requirements into technical roadmaps.
- Optimize resource allocation and delivery workflows to maximize team efficiency and output.
- Track and communicate key performance indicators to guide data-driven improvements.
- Foster a culture of innovation where experimentation supports secure and scalable system design.
- Partner with customer support and success to resolve complex issues impacting deployed services.
- Evaluate emerging tools and frameworks to modernize the development stack and improve developer experience.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing sessions to spread best practices across the organization.
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with internal governance and external regulatory requirements.
Requirements
- 10+ years of software development experience.
- 2+ years of experience building high-performance, distributed SaaS platforms at cloud scale.
- Foundational knowledge of AI/ML technologies and experience applying AI-driven solutions.
- Expert command of networking protocols including TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, and SSL/TLS, plus firewall policy enforcement.
- Practical experience with cloud networking infrastructure in AWS, Azure, or GCP, specifically security groups, NACL, NATGW, IGW, and transit gateways.
- Proven history of hiring, developing, and retaining engineering talent.
- Proficiency in Agile methodologies (Scrum or Kanban) and project execution via Jira.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to coordinate with global stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining accountability.
- Experience managing technical documentation and ensuring its accuracy and relevance.
- Willingness to engage in on-call rotations as required by service availability needs.
- Commitment to following security best practices and organizational policies at all times.
- Readiness to travel occasionally for business purposes as defined by team needs.
Nice to have
- Experience implementing AI-based anomaly detection, threat detection, or automated security policy generation.
- Advanced background in architecting complex distributed systems and large-scale SaaS.
- Mastery of specialized firewall technologies and complex traffic forwarding rules.
- Technical certifications or deep expertise in AWS, Azure, or GCP environments.
- Familiarity with zero trust frameworks and implementation patterns in enterprise settings.
- Contributions to open source projects or internal tools that demonstrate engineering leadership.
- Experience with performance tuning and capacity planning for high-traffic services.
- Background in security operations and integration with SOC workflows.
- Knowledge of compliance frameworks relevant to cloud security services.
