About the role
Zscaler is looking for a Staff DevOps Engineer to join the Identity team. You will manage infrastructure requirements, guide systems architecture, and support software development peers in a hybrid environment. In this capacity, you will own the design and execution of infrastructure initiatives that directly impact the reliability and security of identity services. You will act as a technical leader, driving the standardization of deployment patterns and infrastructure as code across the organization. The role requires deep collaboration with cross-functional partners to translate business requirements into scalable cloud solutions. You will be responsible for ensuring that day two operations run smoothly and that services remain performant and available at all times. Through mentorship and technical guidance, you will influence the engineering culture and elevate the standard of DevOps practices across the team.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Provision services on AWS and GCP using Kubernetes, Helm, and Terraform to support identity and security workloads.
- Manage security compliance for service deployments and oversee day 2 operations to ensure continuous stability.
- Collaborate with the team to optimize cloud utilization and control costs without sacrificing performance or reliability.
- Design and build CI/CD pipelines that enable rapid and safe delivery of software changes.
- Mentor software engineers on DevOps principles and practices to foster shared ownership and operational excellence.
- Maintain and evolve infrastructure definitions using infrastructure as code, ensuring consistency across development and production environments.
- Partner with product and engineering teams to troubleshoot complex issues in production and guide remediation efforts.
- Evaluate and integrate new tools and technologies that enhance observability, automation, and resilience of cloud services.
- Support the implementation of automated testing and validation within deployment workflows to reduce risk.
- Drive the adoption of best practices for logging, monitoring, and alerting to improve service visibility.
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor degree in Computer Science and Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Possess U.S. Citizenship as this role requires it for the position.
- Bring experience hosting 24/7 services on public clouds with AWS being a mandatory skill set.
- Demonstrate proficiency in automation and orchestration using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.
- Show experience managing Kubernetes resources with Helm charts and using GitLab or similar CI/CD tools for deployment pipelines.
- Have knowledge of SQL databases, with Postgres being preferred, and understand cloud architecture components like load balancing, message queuing, and in-memory caches.
- Exhibit understanding of AI/ML technologies and experience applying AI-driven solutions within a functional domain to solve real problems.
- Be able to work in a hybrid environment, balancing remote and in-office schedules while maintaining high productivity.
Nice to have
- Experience with AIOps, automated anomaly detection, or AI-driven predictive scaling to enhance operational efficiency.
- Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and Alertmanager for maintaining service health.
- Advanced background in maintaining highly available cloud services and optimizing cloud cost frameworks to maximize value.
