About the role
The will own the strategy and execution of the mobile platform vision, leading the dedicated team that builds the technology powering the Zopa app. You will act as the architectural guardian, defining and enforcing mobile standards while constructing the shared libraries and capabilities used by the entire organization. Your leadership will directly govern the performance, stability, and reliability of the customer-facing application, which serves as the primary digital channel for engaging with Zopa's customers. You will navigate the balance between native and cross-platform development to guide the evolution of the mobile tech stack. As a thought leader within the regulated banking sector, you will push technology forward while ensuring strict adherence to compliance and financial regulations. You will manage the introduction of new tools and methodologies to keep the platform modern, efficient, and aligned with the company's strategic objectives. Ultimately, you will ship iterative improvements that delight users, manage technical debt, and execute on the long-term product vision for the Zopa app.

What you'll do
- Define intake goals for mobile platform initiatives to ensure the team prioritizes the highest-impact work aligned with business objectives.
- Design and oversee the architecture of the mobile platform, balancing native modules with React Native to maximize speed, stability, and scalability.
- Coordinate build processes and release management to stabilize analytics and delivery pipelines, ensuring every release is traceable, reliable, and auditable.
- Partner with product and engineering leaders to conduct technical reviews, ensuring all mobile initiatives meet banking-grade standards and regulatory expectations.
- Ship iterative improvements to the application that enhance end-user performance, responsiveness, and overall experience.
- Manage and reduce technical debt within the mobile codebase while advancing the long-term product strategy and platform roadmap.
- Evaluate, experiment with, and recommend new tooling and technologies to keep the mobile platform aligned with company goals and industry best practices.
- Lead controlled experiments that test novel approaches for customer applications, fostering a culture of learning, data-driven decision-making, and structured innovation.
- Ensure the integrity and flow of analytics data across the entire mobile stack, implementing robust monitoring and validation to support business decisions.
- Mentor and guide mobile engineers, providing technical leadership and career development within a regulated financial services environment.
- Act as the primary point of contact for partners requiring technical guidance on mobile implementation and architecture.
- Drive the adoption of best practices for security, performance, and compliance across all mobile development activities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical specifications for mobile delivery.
- Maintain a deep awareness of the mobile landscape to ensure the platform remains competitive, efficient, and future-proof.
Requirements
- Bring a minimum of three years of professional experience in mobile development to the role.
- Possess hands-on knowledge of Swift, the primary language for native iOS development, and Kotlin, the primary language for native Android development.
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of how analytics data flows through application layers from collection to reporting.
- Show the ability to work effectively in a regulated financial setting, navigating complex compliance requirements without sacrificing delivery speed.
- Exhibit strong leadership skills capable of managing and motivating a technical team toward shared goals.
- Hold a solid understanding of software architecture principles as they apply to mobile applications.
- Have experience working with React Native, Swift, and Kotlin, which form the foundation of the current platform strategy.
- Be prepared to navigate the constraints and requirements of the banking and financial services regulatory environment.
