Compliance Advisory Manager
Job description
About the role
This role interprets regulatory requirements to advise Zip's business on compliance obligations. The position strengthens governance and embeds controls so the company can grow responsibly in Australia. Success balances customer outcomes with regulatory expectations.
Most organizations organize this kind of work into small teams with a clear owner for each project. People are expected to set priorities, share progress, and ask for help early. Written communication matters because decisions are often recorded and revisited. Successful professionals in any field share a few habits: they take notes, keep commitments, and communicate in writing. Teams value people who make their work easy to review and build on.
Key facts
What you'll do
Business operations and product initiatives are assessed to ensure adherence to consumer credit and financial services rules. Controls are evaluated so compliance is maintained while customer and commercial results stay positive. Zip's Compliance Program is reviewed and enhanced to track obligations and manage risks effectively. Reports are prepared for management forums and governance insights are shared with leadership. Regulatory frameworks, policies, and procedures are refined to strengthen governance across the business. Australian regulatory changes are monitored, business impacts are evaluated, and implementation of initiatives is supported.
Requirements
A minimum of typically 5+ years' experience in compliance, risk, legal, or a related discipline within financial services, fintech, or another regulated industry is required. A sound understanding of regulatory frameworks for consumer credit, financial services, Design and Distribution Obligations, and privacy requirements must be applied. Experience providing compliance advice and supporting implementation of frameworks and regulatory change is necessary. Governance reporting, compliance insights, and regulatory submissions are prepared with demonstrated experience. Strong stakeholder management enables trusted relationships and commercially balanced advice. Analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills are used effectively. Competing priorities are managed proactively in a fast-paced environment. Risk is identified and managed as part of effective risk practices across roles. Customer First, Own It, Stronger Together, and Change the Game values are integrated into day-to-day work.
Practical notes
Hybrid work includes team connection days in the Sydney office. This role operates in Australia and requires Australian work rights. Typical interview steps
Interviews in this field typically test judgment, communication, and fit as much as technical skill. Be ready to describe a challenge you faced, what you did, and what you learned. Most companies value honest answers over polished ones. Whatever the role, preparation is visible. Reviewing the company's product, the job description, and your own past work before the conversation is the strongest step.
Good to know
Compliance roles commonly use frameworks for risk management and governance processes. Communication and stakeholder management are central to advisory work in compliance. Ongoing monitoring and documentation are typical responsibilities in regulatory programs. Tools and systems that support compliance, risk, and regulatory workflows are used in this work. Career growth may include broader responsibilities and advanced advisory work over time.
Questions to ask
Good questions to ask the employer in the interview: what does success look like in the first six months, how is the team structured, what is the current biggest challenge, and how are decisions made. Asking about growth paths and the review process is also well received. Employers expect questions, and good ones show preparation.
Career growth
Career growth comes from taking on harder problems and making your work visible. Look for opportunities to own outcomes, mentor others, and learn the business beyond your team. Growth in any career comes from scope, results, and reputation. Take on work that is slightly uncomfortable, and make sure others can see the outcomes.
