About the role
Senior Copywriter Opportunity at Award-Winning Independent Agency Zambezi
Zambezi operates as a proudly independent, women-owned creative agency and is recognized as the 2026 winner of the Ad Age Small Agency of the Year award. This achievement provides professionals with the autonomy to execute the best work of their careers. The environment is defined by a distinct absence of red tape, ensuring real autonomy, direct ownership, and the operational space required to execute ambitious plans. The agency is currently seeking a Senior Copywriter to form a strategic partnership with a Senior Art Director, with the responsibility of co-leading creative initiatives across a diverse and extensive portfolio of clients.
The position requires the ability to shepherd campaigns comprehensively, moving from the initial brief phase through to final production. In this capacity, the successful candidate will interrogate strategic foundations, develop core concepts, and execute persuasive copy across a multitude of platforms. These channels include digital, social, broadcast, audio, print, and experiential touchpoints. The role grants the freedom to manage projects with significant ownership, pitch creative vision directly to clients, and oversee detailed production elements to ensure the final deliverable matches the intended vision precisely.
Core Responsibilities
The Senior Copywriter will be expected to lead the conceptualization of major ideas and handle tactical copywriting duties. This involves delivering high-impact campaign concepts that progress seamlessly from the pitch stage through to full execution. There is a requirement to work in close collaboration with the Strategy department to deeply analyze briefs. This analysis must translate insights into compelling creative directions while consistently addressing primary business objectives for each client.
Collaboration is central to this position, as the copywriter will co-lead the creative vision across multiple accounts in partnership with a Senior Art Director. This partnership demands the maintenance of exceptionally high creative standards and fosters a culture of mutual collaboration. The writing component of the role requires crafting and refining copy that is adaptable and effective across every communication channel. This includes digital, social media, broadcast, radio/audio, print, and non-traditional platforms.
Oversight of copy integrity is a critical function throughout the entire production lifecycle. The Senior Copywriter will work directly with directors, voice talent, and production teams to ensure that the written content is realized accurately in the final work. The role also involves structuring and delivering presentations that illustrate creative vision. These pitches must balance leadership clarity with the confidence to inspire trust in both internal leadership teams and external clients. Attention to detail is paramount, as the copywriter must champion grammatical precision, perform rigorous editing, and proofread all materials to protect brand integrity from the first draft to the final export.
Essential Qualifications and Requirements
Candidates must possess a minimum of 5 to 7 years of hands-on experience as a Creative Copywriter within an advertising or creative agency setting. A demonstrated skill set is required for exceptional headline writing, as well as the ability to manage both short and long-form storytelling. There must be a proven capacity to execute concepts with versatility, allowing for a seamless adaptation of tone across a wide variety of brands and target audiences.
The ideal applicant will have hands-on experience in conceptualizing and producing work that spans the full spectrum of media. This includes digital, social, streaming, broadcast, radio/audio, print, and experiential formats. A deep curiosity and genuine connection to pop culture, current trends, and emerging digital behaviors are essential for informing modern storytelling approaches. The role requires a professional who can take full ownership of campaigns and lead day-to-day creative responsibilities with a Senior Art Director partner, requiring minimal supervision.
Strong presentation and pitching skills are non-negotiable, requiring the confidence to articulate creative concepts passionately and clearly. Flawless grammar, editing, and proofreading skills must be accompanied by strict attention to detail. The successful candidate must operate as a self-starter with a highly collaborative and solution-oriented approach to overcoming creative challenges. Proficiency in Google Workspace applications, including Docs, Slides, and Sheets, is a mandatory technical requirement.
