Wunderflats is seeking a talented (Senior) Backend Engineer with expertise in Node.js to join our dynamic team in Berlin. As a key player in our engineering department, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining robust backend systems that support our innovative platform for furnished apartment rentals. What you'll do

Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Node.js, ensuring high performance and responsiveness to requests from the front end.
Collaborate closely with frontend developers to integrate user-facing elements with server-side logic, creating seamless user experiences.
Implement RESTful APIs and microservices architecture that facilitate efficient communication between different components of the application.
Optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability, identifying bottlenecks and fixing bugs as they arise.
Participate in code reviews to maintain code quality and share knowledge with team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Work with cloud services, particularly AWS, to deploy and manage applications, ensuring reliability and security.
Utilize database technologies such as MongoDB or PostgreSQL to design and maintain data storage solutions that meet application needs.
Engage in agile development practices, participating in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives to ensure timely delivery of features.
Monitor application performance and troubleshoot issues, implementing solutions to enhance system reliability and user satisfaction.
Contribute to the development of best practices and documentation for backend development processes, ensuring consistency across the team.
Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends, applying this knowledge to improve our backend systems and processes.
Mentor junior developers, providing guidance and support to help them grow their skills and advance their careers.

Requirements

Proven experience as a Backend Engineer with a strong focus on Node.js development (minimum 3 years).
Solid understanding of server-side logic and architecture, with experience in building RESTful APIs and microservices.
Proficiency in working with databases, particularly MongoDB or PostgreSQL, and experience with data modeling and query optimization.
Familiarity with cloud platforms, especially AWS, and experience in deploying applications in a cloud environment.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues effectively.
Experience with version control systems, particularly Git, and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.
Knowledge of agile methodologies and experience working in an agile team environment.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Nice to have

Experience with TypeScript and its application in Node.js development.
Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
Knowledge of frontend technologies (e.g., React, Vue.js) to facilitate better collaboration with frontend teams.
Previous experience in the real estate or property management sector is a plus.
Understanding of security best practices in web application development.
