What you'll do

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety programs that comply with local, provincial, and federal regulations, ensuring a safe working environment for all employees.
• Conduct regular safety audits and inspections across all operational areas to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
• Collaborate with various departments to promote safety awareness and ensure that safety protocols are integrated into daily operations.
• Lead incident investigations, analyzing root causes, and developing strategies to prevent future occurrences.
• Provide training and resources to employees on safety practices, emergency procedures, and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Monitor and report on safety performance metrics, preparing detailed reports for management and regulatory bodies.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for safety-related inquiries and concerns, fostering open communication regarding safety issues.
• Stay updated on industry best practices and changes in safety legislation, ensuring that Bamboohr remains compliant and proactive in its safety initiatives.
• Facilitate safety meetings and workshops to engage employees and promote a culture of safety throughout the organization.
• Assist in the development of safety policies and procedures, ensuring they are clearly communicated and understood by all staff members.
• Coordinate emergency response drills and training sessions to prepare employees for potential safety incidents.
• Collaborate with external safety consultants and regulatory agencies to enhance safety practices and compliance measures.

Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in safety management, preferably within the mining or heavy industry sector.
• A degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of safety regulations and standards applicable to the mining industry in Canada.
• Proven experience in conducting safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage employees at all levels.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
• Proficiency in safety management software and tools, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating leadership and initiative.
• Valid First Aid and CPR certification is required; additional safety certifications are a plus.

Nice to have

• Experience with environmental management systems and sustainability practices.
• Familiarity with ISO 45001 or similar safety management standards.
• Previous experience in training and mentoring safety personnel.
• Knowledge of emergency response planning and crisis management.
• Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset.
