Key facts
What you'll do
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety programs that comply with local, provincial, and federal regulations, ensuring a safe working environment for all employees.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections across all operational areas to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Collaborate with various departments to promote safety awareness and ensure that safety protocols are integrated into daily operations.
- Lead incident investigations, analyzing root causes, and developing strategies to prevent future occurrences.
- Provide training and resources to employees on safety practices, emergency procedures, and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Monitor and report on safety performance metrics, preparing detailed reports for management and regulatory bodies.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for safety-related inquiries and concerns, fostering open communication regarding safety issues.
- Stay updated on industry best practices and changes in safety legislation, ensuring that Bamboohr remains compliant and proactive in its safety initiatives.
- Facilitate safety meetings and workshops to engage employees and promote a culture of safety throughout the organization.
- Assist in the development of safety policies and procedures, ensuring they are clearly communicated and understood by all staff members.
- Coordinate emergency response drills and training sessions to prepare employees for potential safety incidents.
- Collaborate with external safety consultants and regulatory agencies to enhance safety practices and compliance measures.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in safety management, preferably within the mining or heavy industry sector.
- A degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations and standards applicable to the mining industry in Canada.
- Proven experience in conducting safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage employees at all levels.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
- Proficiency in safety management software and tools, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating leadership and initiative.
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification is required; additional safety certifications are a plus.
Nice to have
- Experience with environmental management systems and sustainability practices.
- Familiarity with ISO 45001 or similar safety management standards.
- Previous experience in training and mentoring safety personnel.
- Knowledge of emergency response planning and crisis management.
- Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset.
