About the role
As a Payroll Accountant at Bamboohr, you will play a crucial role in managing and overseeing the payroll processes for our diverse workforce. This position is ideal for individuals with a keen eye for detail and a strong understanding of payroll regulations and compliance. You will be responsible for ensuring that all employees are paid accurately and on time while maintaining the integrity of financial records. This is a full-time position based in Athens, Athens, where you will collaborate closely with various departments to support our payroll operations.

What you'll do
- Process payroll for all employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in payments while adhering to legal and company policies.
- Maintain employee records related to payroll, including new hires, terminations, and changes in employment status.
- Calculate and apply deductions for taxes, benefits, and other withholdings, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Prepare and distribute payroll reports, including summaries and detailed breakdowns of payroll expenses for management review.
- Collaborate with HR to ensure that employee data is up-to-date and accurately reflected in the payroll system.
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll discrepancies, tax withholdings, and other payroll-related matters.
- Assist in the preparation of year-end payroll reports, including W-2s and other tax documents, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements.
- Conduct regular audits of payroll processes to identify and rectify discrepancies or inefficiencies.
- Stay informed about changes in payroll legislation and best practices to ensure compliance and improve processes.
- Support the finance team with budgeting and forecasting related to payroll expenses.
- Participate in the implementation of payroll software upgrades and enhancements to improve efficiency.
- Provide training and support to other team members on payroll procedures and systems as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in payroll processing or accounting, preferably in a corporate environment.
- Strong knowledge of payroll regulations and compliance requirements at both local and national levels.
- Proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills to ensure accuracy in payroll calculations.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and integrity.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively interact with employees and management.
- Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with accounting principles and financial reporting is a plus.
Nice to have
- Experience with specific payroll software such as ADP, Paychex, or similar systems.
- Certification in payroll management or accounting (e.g., CPP, FPC) is advantageous.
- Knowledge of labor laws and regulations in Greece or the EU.
- Previous experience in a multinational company is a plus.
