You will spearhead the development of features that translate dense municipal codes and permitting requirements into intuitive, high-confidence product workflows for construction professionals. This role centers on architecting systems where AI acts as a core processing engine rather than a superficial add-on. You will own the entire lifecycle of complex functionalities, ensuring they meet stringent standards for reliability and usability in time-sensitive project scenarios. The position demands close collaboration with product and design to refine user journeys that reduce friction in government interactions. You will leverage large language models to extract, normalize, and validate information from sprawling regulatory documents. Success in this role means directly accelerating project kickoffs for some of the largest brands and public infrastructure efforts in the country. You are expected to balance rapid experimentation with the durability required in regulated environments. Your work will define how AI capabilities are integrated into mission-critical paths for users who depend on accuracy.

What you'll do

• Take full ownership of complex features, guiding them from initial discovery sessions with stakeholders through architecture, implementation, testing, and production deployment.
• Analyze and convert intricate permitting documents, city-specific regulations, and multi-jurisdictional workflows into structured, dependable digital experiences powered by AI.
• Design and implement resilient system architectures that balance speed, accuracy, and cost while integrating modern AI capabilities into the core product.
• Partner with product managers to define clear requirement specifications and acceptance criteria that capture edge cases in real-world construction scenarios.
• Evaluate and integrate AI agent-generated code into the main codebase, maintaining rigorous quality standards through testing, review, and monitoring.
• Collaborate with designers to translate mockups and prototypes into interactive interfaces that handle complex regulatory logic gracefully.
• Mentor junior engineers by conducting design reviews, providing actionable feedback, and fostering a culture of clean code and robust problem solving.
• Develop and maintain automated testing strategies that validate the correctness of AI outputs and the stability of critical workflows.
• Monitor production performance of deployed features, using data and user feedback to drive iterative improvements and bug fixes.
• Act as a technical leader in discussions with cross-functional teams, influencing priorities and ensuring alignment between engineering capabilities and business goals.
• Build and refine evaluation metrics specifically for AI-driven features, ensuring that reliability, accuracy, and latency are measured and optimized.
• Work closely with subject matter experts in construction and government technology to clarify ambiguous requirements and uncover hidden constraints.
• Implement tooling that allows product teams to experiment with new AI capabilities without requiring extensive engineering effort.
• Document system behavior, API contracts, and decision-making processes to ensure continuity and clarity for the broader organization.

Requirements

• Have a minimum of 4 years of professional software engineering experience in a production setting.
• Demonstrate a proven track record of delivering substantial product features end-to-end, from initial requirements gathering through deployment and post-launch observation.
• Show advanced proficiency in full-stack development with strong skills in TypeScript, React, and Google Cloud Platform or equivalent technologies.
• Have hands-on experience building features with AI coding assistants and LLM-driven tools where you guided agents through significant implementation tasks.
• Exhibit the ability to design scalable, maintainable systems while making pragmatic trade-offs under real-world constraints.
• Maintain strong written and verbal communication skills to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Reside in the San Francisco Bay Area and be capable of working in the office four days per week as specified.
• Bring a deep understanding of software development best practices, including testing, version control, and code review.

• Previous work in construction technology, government technology, property technology, or other domains involving complex real-world documents and processes.

Practical notes

The role requires on-site presence in San Francisco for four days each week, ensuring close collaboration and alignment with the team. This is a full-time position eligible for equity compensation as part of the total rewards package. candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship for this role. The compensation range is set between $180,000 and $230,000 annually, supplemented by equity, reflecting the scope and impact of the position.
