Senior Software Engineer II
Job description
About the role
Wise is seeking senior product engineers to join the Grow squad with a mission to transform the Wise Account into a primary global financial hub for customers around the world. In this capacity, you will own the design and execution of critical backend systems that enable new financial products and experiences. You will contribute directly to either scaling our existing asset-backed yield products or building new investment infrastructure from the ground up to meet global demand. This role requires a balance of strategic thinking and hands-on implementation to deliver solutions that are both robust and scalable. You will work closely with cross-functional partners to turn complex requirements into elegant technical outcomes. Your work will have a direct impact on how millions of customers earn returns and manage liquidity within their Wise accounts. Ultimately, you will help define the technical boundaries of our investment infrastructure and ensure its reliability at scale.

- Partner with security and compliance teams to ensure that all implementations adhere to regulatory requirements and internal governance policies.
- Mentor junior engineers by providing code reviews, technical guidance, and feedback to elevate the overall quality of the engineering organization.
- Evaluate and recommend third-party services and libraries to support new functionality while balancing cost, risk, and long-term maintainability.
- Lead technical discussions during sprint planning, retrospectives, and architecture reviews to drive alignment on priorities and best practices.
- Translate ambiguous business requirements into well-defined technical tasks that can be executed by the engineering team.
- Support on-call responsibilities and incident response processes to ensure timely resolution of critical production issues.

- Deep understanding of architectural patterns and a commitment to writing clean, performant, and well-tested code that stands the test of time.
- Demonstrated experience working with financial systems, trading platforms, or regulated environments is highly valued.
- Comfort working in an agile environment where priorities can shift quickly based on market needs and regulatory changes.
- Willingness to engage in hands-on coding, debugging, and performance tuning across a distributed technology stack.
