The Send Core team is responsible for the essential infrastructure that handles all money transfers, catering to both individual users and large corporate clients. In this role, you will be tasked with maintaining this vital system while also working on new features that enhance the overall user experience for our diverse global clientele. Your contributions will play a key role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of transactions, which are critical to our operations.

What you'll do

• Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and data analysts to deliver exceptional user experiences that meet customer needs.
• Oversee the management and upkeep of the core platform systems that facilitate every transaction processed by Wise.
• Architect solutions for the main sending components to guarantee optimal performance and dependability.
• Allocate your efforts primarily to backend development (approximately 80%), while also engaging in frontend tasks (around 20%) to ensure a well-rounded approach.
• Actively seek out and suggest enhancements to product features and internal processes to drive efficiency and user satisfaction.
• Engage in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers to foster a culture of continuous improvement within the team.
• Participate in the design and implementation of scalable and secure APIs that will support our growing user base.
• Utilize data-driven insights to inform your development decisions and prioritize tasks effectively.
• Mentor junior engineers, sharing your knowledge and experience to help them grow in their roles.
• Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies to keep our systems at the forefront of innovation.
• Document your work and contribute to the knowledge base to ensure that best practices are shared across the team.
• Work in a hybrid environment, balancing remote and in-office collaboration to maximize productivity and team cohesion.

Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in building complex, high-reliability software systems, ideally in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts in a straightforward manner.
• Solid grasp of computer science principles, including algorithms, data structures, and system design.
• A user-centric mindset, focusing on addressing real-world problems through your engineering efforts.
• Understanding of the business implications of engineering decisions, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
• Ability to approach challenges from a product perspective, considering user experience alongside technical considerations.
• Self-motivated and capable of working independently, with a strong commitment to completing tasks efficiently.
• Experience with agile methodologies and a collaborative approach to software development.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with cloud services and deployment strategies, particularly in AWS or similar platforms.
• Experience in working with distributed systems and microservices architecture.
• Knowledge of modern frontend frameworks such as React or Angular.
• Previous experience in the fintech sector or with payment processing systems.
• Understanding of security best practices in software development.

Skills & tools

• Proficiency in backend programming languages such as Java, Python, or Node.js.
• Experience with frontend technologies including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Knowledge of system architecture principles and high-availability design patterns.
• Familiarity with tools for continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD).
• Experience with database management systems, both SQL and NoSQL.

Practical notes

• The starting salary for this position ranges from £111,000 to £145,000, along with additional compensation in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
