Engineering Lead - Account Management

About the role

In this position, you will take charge of the Account Management team, which is responsible for the essential banking products and Current Account functionalities at Wise. This role requires a blend of leadership in people management, strategic product oversight, and direct technical involvement to ensure our ledger and money transfer systems are both dependable and scalable.

What you'll do

• Lead and support engineers, emphasizing their professional growth and daily well-being.
• Stay engaged in technical tasks by writing code, conducting pull request reviews, and managing feature rollouts across mobile, web, and backend systems.
• Establish the technical roadmap, oversee system advancements, and tackle technical debt effectively.
• Work closely with product managers and designers to assess and prioritize the development of new features.
• Collaborate with various internal teams, including Account Sharing, Send, and Wise Platform, to ensure seamless integration of account functionalities.
• Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the engineering team.
• Analyze system performance metrics to identify areas for enhancement and optimization.
• Drive initiatives that enhance the reliability and scalability of our systems, ensuring they meet the demands of high traffic.

Requirements

• A solid background in backend engineering, with the capability to guide senior engineers through intricate technical challenges.
• Deep knowledge of microservices, event-driven architecture, and distributed systems.
• Proven experience in managing the scalability, accuracy, and dependability of high-traffic systems.
• Proficiency in Java, Kotlin, and Spring Boot, or the ability to quickly acquire expertise in this technology stack.
• Prior experience in leading engineering teams and being accountable for their deliverables.
• Excellent communication skills to effectively bridge the gap between technical specifications and business objectives.
• A product-oriented mindset that emphasizes customer satisfaction and business results.
• Capacity to thrive in ambiguous settings while upholding high standards and maintaining a rapid pace of work.

• Familiarity with AI tools that can enhance development efficiency.
• Previous work experience in the banking, fintech, or payments sectors.

Salary: £105,000 - £135,000, along with Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
