Senior Engineer - Municipal Water Conveyance & Storage

About the role

You will perform complex engineering tasks and manage advanced aspects of municipal water conveyance and storage projects within our Infrastructure business sector. This role involves the design of pipelines, pump stations, lift stations, wells, and storage tanks and associated facilities from initial concept through detailed design. You will prepare engineering designs, reports, construction drawings, specifications, and calculations to ensure safe, reliable, and resilient water systems. You will review product designs and drawings for compliance with engineering principles, firm standards, and client contract requirements. Additionally, you will develop proposals and budgets for lower risk and smaller engineering efforts while cultivating client relationships and maintaining project workload projections. You will act as a project manager or team member on larger design and construction projects, preparing technical recommendations and supporting professional growth through mentorship.

What you'll do

Perform complex engineering tasks and manage advanced aspects of engineering assignments for municipal water conveyance and storage projects.

Prepare detailed engineering designs, reports, construction drawings, specifications, and calculations to meet project requirements and regulatory standards.

Review product designs and drawings for compliance with engineering principles, firm standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications.

Develop proposals and budgets for lower risk and smaller engineering efforts to support scoping and client engagement.

Meet with clients to determine recommended project scope, estimate staffing requirements, and prepare fee structures for review and approval.

Cultivate client relationships through organizational involvement and by direct contract to ensure long-term engagement and trust.

Maintain three-month workload projections for all projects under personal management to support capacity planning and resource allocation.

Work closely with other engineers and managers to balance workload demands amongst current staff and optimize team productivity.

Assist in mentoring and training Associate Engineers, Engineers, and Engineering Interns to foster professional development and knowledge transfer.

Prepare and conduct technical reviews of staff reports, correspondence, calculations, and prepare technical recommendations for project decisions.

Plan, organize, and supervise the work of professionals and technicians as needed to ensure timely and high-quality project delivery.

Prepare specifications and contract documents to clearly define project requirements and facilitate procurement and construction processes.

Prepare opinions of probable cost and construction schedules and sequencing for current and new designs to support budgeting and planning.

Act as project manager or team member on larger design and construction projects, leading coordination and delivery efforts.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering is required for this role.

Candidates must bring a minimum of 10+ years of relevant experience in water conveyance and storage engineering.

Excellent writing and communication skills are essential for preparing reports and engaging with clients and stakeholders.

Demonstrated experience with CAD and GIS is required to perform detailed design and spatial analysis tasks.

Possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is required to practice and provide sign-off on engineering documents.

You must be able to perform duties in Reno, NV, aligning with the stated work location and hybrid schedule.

The role requires compliance with firm standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications during project execution.

You must maintain three-month workload projections and support resource balancing across active projects.

Preferred Education and/or Experience

Master's degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering is preferred for advanced technical contributions and leadership opportunities.

Practical notes

This position operates under a hybrid schedule with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote.

Travel to other offices and/or client sites may be required as part of project duties.

This role is full-time and exempt, with compensation aligned to the Reno, NV geographic market.
