What you'll do
- Design, develop, and implement training programs tailored to the technical needs of engineering teams, ensuring alignment with Waymo's strategic objectives.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to create engaging and effective training materials, including presentations, manuals, and online courses.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through assessments and feedback, making necessary adjustments to improve learning outcomes.
- Facilitate training sessions, workshops, and seminars, utilizing a variety of instructional methods to accommodate different learning styles.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and best practices in technical training and adult learning principles, integrating new insights into program development.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to identify skill gaps and training needs, ensuring that all technical staff are well-prepared to meet current and future challenges.
- Monitor and report on training metrics, providing insights to leadership regarding program effectiveness and areas for improvement.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning within the organization, encouraging team members to pursue professional development opportunities.
- Manage the training budget, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently and effectively to maximize impact.
- Support onboarding processes for new hires, ensuring they receive the necessary training to become productive members of the team quickly.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive training calendar, coordinating schedules and logistics for all training activities.
- Act as a mentor and coach to junior trainers and technical staff, promoting knowledge sharing and professional growth within the team.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Engineering, Education, or Human Resources; a Master's degree is a plus.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in technical training, instructional design, or a related field, preferably within the technology or automotive industry.
- Proven experience in developing and delivering training programs for technical audiences, with a strong understanding of adult learning principles.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts in an accessible manner.
- Strong analytical skills to assess training effectiveness and make data-driven decisions for program improvements.
- Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS) and e-learning development tools.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Nice to have
- Experience in the autonomous vehicle or robotics industry, with a solid understanding of the technical challenges faced by engineering teams.
- Certification in instructional design or training methodologies, such as ATD or CPTD.
- Knowledge of software development processes and methodologies, including Agile and DevOps practices.
Skills & tools
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace.
- Familiarity with e-learning platforms such as Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, or similar tools.
- Strong project management skills, with experience using tools like Asana, Trello, or Jira to track progress and manage timelines.
- Ability to adapt training content for various formats, including in-person, virtual, and hybrid learning environments.
Practical notes
- This position may require occasional travel to different Waymo locations for training sessions and workshops.
- Candidates should be prepared to provide a portfolio of previous training materials or programs developed as part of the application process.
