Service Capacity and Automation Program Manager
Job description
About the role
You will serve as a central program leader tasked with diagnosing and resolving performance constraints across Waymo's evolving garage network. The core of this position involves owning the end-to-end process for identifying inefficiencies and architecting scalable automation solutions. You will act as the primary liaison between operational reality and technical execution, ensuring that data-driven insights translate into tangible throughput gains. Success in this role means establishing a robust operational framework capable of supporting Waymo's global growth ambitions. You will manage the introduction of new vehicle platforms and ensure that facility workflows are optimized for reliability. Your work will directly influence the reliability and scalability of the Waymo Driver in the field. You will lead cross-functional initiatives that require balancing technical feasibility with operational practicality. Ultimately, you will be responsible for creating a repeatable and resilient model for depot operations that can adapt to future demands.
Key facts
What you'll do
Investigate complex performance indicators to uncover systemic issues that constrain garage throughput and operational efficiency. Design and implement automation strategies in partnership with engineering teams to resolve bottlenecks and improve field performance. Model capacity requirements and spatial constraints to develop a scalable framework that supports efficient depot operations. Manage the full lifecycle of new product introductions, ensuring facilities are technically and procedurally ready to handle new Waymo Driver platforms. Translate intricate operational data into clear narratives for executive stakeholders to guide strategic decision-making. Perform detailed metric analysis and lead rapid operational responses during live deployments to minimize service disruption. Mediate between engineering, operations, and product teams to align priorities and resolve execution challenges. Establish clear reporting structures and telemetry systems to track progress and validate the impact of process changes. Drive continuous improvement by challenging existing workflows and identifying opportunities for incremental gains. Collaborate with facilities teams to ensure that physical infrastructure supports the long-term goals of automation and scalability.
Requirements
You must possess over 10 years of experience managing complex operational programs within highly technical environments. Your background should include successfully managing multiple vehicle types and introducing new products at scale without compromising safety or reliability. You need a proven ability to investigate intricate metrics and implement process changes within active operational environments that are constantly in motion. Strong skills in roadmap management and prioritization are necessary to balance competing demands and deliver results. You must excel at coordinating between operations, product development, and engineering teams to ensure alignment on shared objectives. Advanced data skills are required to build robust performance tracking systems and to communicate data-backed strategies to leadership effectively. You should demonstrate a history of owning end-to-end program management responsibilities from initial hypothesis through to measurable outcomes. The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment where ambiguity is common and decisions must be made with incomplete information is essential.
Nice to have
Experience in vehicle operations, automotive service technology, or advanced fleet maintenance is valued as it provides context for real-world constraints. Fluency in data analysis, including the use of query languages for operational data, is preferred to enable deeper investigation. An understanding of structured program management methodologies for facility deployment is important for ensuring consistency. Familiarity with the principles of autonomous vehicle operations and fleet performance metrics would provide additional context for the role. Experience working in large-scale, distributed operational environments is beneficial for managing the complexities of a multi-location network.
