This role suits someone early in their engineering career who wants to do work that matters. No prior Elixir experience is required, as the company provides teaching and support. Software engineers build the products that enable care delivery teams-community health workers, social workers, pharmacists, and care coordinators-to support people with Medicaid benefits.

You own a slice of the product journey from intake to partners, writing Elixir and TypeScript to serve Medicaid members. Guided by community first, you ship features that matter early in your career while a senior engineer mentors you. Your curiosity and clear communication drive how the team experiments, learns, and improves care delivery.

In your first six months, you will ship features and fixes to the messaging platform, built in Elixir. You will work through bug tickets across the stack, which includes React, TypeScript, and Elixir. You will set up a local development environment that mirrors production. Participation in sprint planning and refinement, using Jira for work management, is part of the routine. Contributions to code reviews on GitHub and clear updates during standups keep the team aligned. Collaboration with senior engineers, product, and design on upcoming feature planning is expected. Work with PostgreSQL as part of the production data layer.

Your work will include designing intake workflows that transform messy member data into reliable inputs for React and Elixir systems. You will build and iterate on features in Elixir and Phoenix, then validate behavior through tests and code reviews. You will review pull requests with care, sharing precise feedback that keeps TypeScript and Elixir codebases clean. You will ship fixes to the messaging platform and production data layer, coordinating with product and design for each rollout. Partnership with community health workers and care coordinators ensures tools meet real workflows and member needs. Refactoring legacy components will improve maintainability, guided by senior engineers and functional principles. Collaboration on sprint planning and refinement in Jira turns ambiguous problems into clear, testable tasks. Maintaining local development environments that accurately mirror production enables faster debugging and safer changes.

Qualifications include some experience building software through jobs, internships, bootcamps, or meaningful personal projects. Familiarity with at least one modern web framework such as React, Next.js, or Phoenix is required. Understanding Git workflows and working confidently with version control in a team setting are necessary. Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt messages for engineers and nontechnical partners, are essential.

Preferred qualifications include experience with functional programming and testing frameworks. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and motivation in healthcare technology are valued. Comfort in a fast-paced, mission-driven startup where care and technology intersect is important.

The hiring range for this role in the specified locations is $85,000 to $110,000.
