The Systems Engineer V

Systems acts as a senior technical authority defining and integrating complex defense systems. This role ensures program-level systems engineering rigor and compliance with contractual and mission requirements. You will oversee system, subsystem, and interface requirements definition while maintaining full traceability, verification, and compliance with MDA standards. The position leads the development and validation of system architecture and directs the creation of system-level verification and validation plans. You will interface extensively with propulsion, software, hardware, GNC, and test teams to ensure coherent system-level performance and verification closure. The role manages system-level risk identification and mitigation, integrating these strategies into the overall program risk posture.

What you'll do

• Architect and validate complex defense systems while ensuring strict adherence to program requirements and mission objectives.
• Define, maintain, and verify system, subsystem, and interface requirements to guarantee full traceability and compliance with MDA standards.
• Develop and execute system-level verification and validation plans, functional allocations, and interface definitions across all program tiers.
• Provide authoritative leadership in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), guiding SysML modeling standards and digital engineering toolchain alignment.
• Collaborate closely with propulsion, software, hardware, GNC, and test teams to achieve coherent system-level performance and verification closure.
• Manage system-level risk identification, develop mitigation strategies, and integrate them into the program-wide risk posture.
• Coordinate technical baseline management, change control, and active participation in formal reviews including SRR, PDR, CDR, and TRR.
• Serve as the primary technical liaison with customer and supplier organizations, resolving requirements flowdown, verification progress, and technical issues.
• Mentor junior and mid-level systems engineers, fostering knowledge transfer and enhancing process maturity within the organization.
• Drive the creation and execution of comprehensive system-level verification strategies to ensure all functional allocations are met.
• Lead the interpretation and application of systems engineering lifecycle standards throughout the program execution.
• Ensure all system-level compliance reporting is accurate, timely, and aligned with contractual and regulatory expectations.
• Facilitate cross-functional integration to resolve complex technical challenges and maintain project momentum.
• Provide expert guidance on digital engineering environments and toolchain integration to enhance system development efficiency.

Requirements

• Hold a Bachelor's Degree in systems engineering, aerospace engineering, or related STEM field with Ten (10) years of experience in systems engineering or related discipline.
• Possess a Master's degree in related STEM field with Eight (8) years of experience in systems engineering or related discipline.
• Have Fourteen (14) years of experience in systems engineering or related discipline in lieu of a degree.
• Alternatively, hold a High School Diploma or Equivalent with sufficient experience to meet role demands.
• Demonstrate deep familiarity with MDA processes, CDRL development, and systems engineering lifecycle standards.
• Exhibit expert-level proficiency in requirements management tools, such as DOORS.
• Show deep knowledge of systems engineering lifecycle standards, including INCOSE SE Handbook and MIL-STD-499.
• Have significant experience applying MBSE principles using SysML and Cameo Systems Modeler (MagicDraw).
• Be proficient with standard office applications including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio, and Project.
• Possess a proven track record of working within complex defense and national security environments.
• Demonstrate the ability to operate effectively in a role requiring technical leadership and mentorship.
• Show commitment to maintaining strict compliance with regulatory and contractual requirements.
• Have the capability to interpret and apply detailed technical specifications and standards.
• Be prepared to support program objectives through rigorous analysis and validation activities.

Nice to have

• Possess working knowledge of DoDAF architecture frameworks and digital engineering environments.
• Have experience in Reliability and/or System Safety Analyses.

Practical notes

Travel up to 10-15%, including the possibility of overnights to support customer reviews and test events. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Clearance. Must comply with ITAR regulations.

The good faith base salary range for this role is $153,615 - $199,400 at the time of this posting. Where you fall within the range depends on your experience, skills and location. This range reflects base salary only and does not include benefits or bonus/incentive. This range may be adjusted in the future. This position is incentive plan eligible.
