About the role
The Sr. Manager, Operational Finance at Viant Technology is responsible for owning the end-to-end operational and financial performance management for the business. This role is tasked with building and delivering accurate reporting packages that track key performance indicators and monitor variance to plan. The hire will partner cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, Product, and Technology to improve business visibility and drive scalable solutions. They will analyze operational and financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for executive-level insights. This position requires a proactive "figure it out" mindset to thrive in ambiguity and move with urgency. The individual will contribute to system implementations and process improvements to enhance scalability and automation.

What you'll do
Own the operational and financial performance management reporting cadence, building and delivering accurate reporting packages that track KPIs, monitor variance to plan, and support both internal decision-making and recurring external reporting requirements for executive and investor audiences.
Analyze operational and financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and prepare executive-level insights for senior leadership and the finance team to guide strategic decision-making.
Partner cross-functionally with department leaders and project teams to ensure accurate financial data and identify operational enhancements that drive the execution of strategic business transformation initiatives across the organization.
Build ad-hoc financial analyses and models to support emerging business needs, including cloud infrastructure costs, vendor economics, and other cross-functional operational questions, and translate complex findings into clear, actionable insights for senior leadership.
Contribute to system implementations and process improvements to enhance scalability, automation, and the reporting of key business metrics in a fast-paced growth environment.
Apply working knowledge of AI tools, effective prompting techniques, and modern data workflows to accelerate analysis, reduce manual effort, and continuously raise the bar on the speed and quality of financial insights.
Support the evaluation of new tools and technologies, including AI-driven solutions, to streamline financial operations and improve data accuracy and reliability.
Assist in the development and maintenance of financial models that provide scenario analysis and forecasting capabilities for business planning and investment decisions.
Collaborate with internal audit and compliance stakeholders to ensure financial processes and controls are robust, scalable, and aligned with corporate governance standards.
Act as a key point of contact for cross-functional stakeholders, translating financial concepts into business-friendly language and facilitating alignment on priorities and initiatives.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives by identifying gaps in current processes and proposing solutions that increase efficiency, transparency, and reliability in financial and operational reporting.
Participate in special projects as needed, including mergers and acquisitions support, organizational assessments, and strategic planning efforts as directed by senior leadership.
Requirements
8+ years of progressive experience, primarily in FP&A, accounting, or finance roles, with broader experience across business operations also considered; relevant experience in the AdTech, SaaS, or digital media industry is a plus.
Possess a BS/BA in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related field; holding a CPA, MBA, and/or CMA is a preferred qualification.
Demonstrate a solid understanding of accounting concepts and the interaction between an income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement in a corporate environment.
Show advanced Excel and financial modeling capabilities, with proficiency in SQL or relational databases and familiarity with business intelligence tools.
Exhibit strong analytical skills with a sharp eye for relevant details, trends, and anomalies in financial and operational data.
Maintain excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly present complex insights to senior leadership and diverse stakeholders.
Display the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment while maintaining a high standard of accuracy.
Exhibit a strong problem-solving mentality with the ability to work through ambiguity and build solutions from the ground up using structured thinking.
Nice to have
Experience with AI tools and automation platforms that can enhance financial reporting and analysis processes.
Knowledge of advertising technology platforms and digital media business models.
Experience with cloud cost management and optimization for infrastructure such as AWS or Azure.
Familiarity with corporate governance, internal controls, and compliance frameworks.
Practical notes
This is a full-time position located in Irvine, California.
The base compensation range for this role is $150,000 to $175,000, as estimated by Viant Technology. Final title and compensation will be based on several factors including work experience and education.
In accordance with California law, this compensation range represents Viant's reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role.
