The is accountable for owning the complete statutory reporting cycle and ensuring strict compliance with local Generally Accepted Accounting Principles for multiple legal entities in Hungary. This role serves as a critical technical and operational link between US GAAP, IFRS standards, and the specific requirements of Hungarian accounting regulations. The hire will conduct deep-dive analytical reviews to resolve intricate and nuanced technical accounting questions that arise during the reporting process. Ownership of the integrity of financial reports spans from the initial gathering of source data through to the final regulatory submission and archival. The Statutory Reporting Accountant will lead the coordination of complex year-end audit activities, acting as the primary liaison to ensure absolute accuracy and regulatory compliance across international borders. - Coordinate directly with external auditors to execute detailed test procedures and substantiate that all balances align precisely with underlying source documentation.
- Calculate and file Hungarian tax returns in strict adherence to local laws, regulations, and statutory filing deadlines without exception.
- Draft comprehensive process documentation that clarifies intricate steps for current teammates and provides clear guidance for future reviewers and successors.
- Monitor updates to financial regulations, laws, and reporting standards, adjusting internal controls and procedures proactively to ensure ongoing local compliance.
- Lead and own the execution of month-end and year-end close activities to ensure local financial statements align accurately with group-wide reporting timelines and consolidation requirements.
- Test intercompany transactions meticulously to ensure accuracy, consistency, and correct elimination across all related entities within the group structure.
- Manage the detailed reconciliation of complex financial data sets, investigating and resolving discrepancies to ensure the accuracy of statutory reports.
- Prepare detailed analysis and commentary for management reporting packages, highlighting key drivers, variances, and potential risks associated with Hungarian operations.
- Ensure the accurate application of local tax treatments and statutory accounting treatments across all financial entries and reports.
- Support the implementation of new systems or enhancements related to financial processes, ensuring local regulatory requirements are embedded within the solutions.
- Liaise with tax advisors and legal counsel to ensure that all statutory filings and interpretations remain current and compliant with Hungarian legislation.
- Contribute to special projects, such as process improvements or system upgrades, that enhance the efficiency and reliability of the statutory accounting function.
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a relevant academic field, or possess equivalent practical knowledge through extensive professional experience.
- Bring a minimum of three years of direct, professional accounting experience, with a specific focus on statutory reporting and compliance responsibilities.
- Demonstrate an in-depth, practical understanding of local Hungarian tax legislation, statutory reporting formats, and regulatory filing procedures.
- Fluency in English is essential for effective communication with internal stakeholders, external auditors, and regulatory bodies.
- Thrive consistently under tight deadlines while maintaining a high standard of precision, accuracy, and order in all deliverables.
- Proficiency in managing figures and reconciling complex data sets using advanced spreadsheet applications such as Microsoft Excel is mandatory.
