About the role
You own the leadership and execution of engineering initiatives that directly shape the mortgage servicing platform and its impact on homeowners. You will partner with product, design, and operations to translate complex business requirements into clear engineering strategies and roadmaps. You are accountable for delivering high quality software on schedule while driving technical excellence and innovation across your teams. This role requires hands-on technical leadership, including some coding and architecture design to unblock your engineers and ensure alignment with platform goals. You will mentor engineers, define processes, and use data to drive continuous improvement and maximize business outcomes. You will also collaborate with other engineering leaders to establish a cohesive engineering culture and technical direction for the entire company.

What you'll do
- Partner with product managers, designers, and operations to develop and successfully execute the R&D strategy to solve business problems that directly impact homeowners.
- Define and evangelize new processes to make your team more effective and deliver an outsized impact on the mortgage servicing workflow.
- Build and develop an incredibly talented team of driven, high performing engineers through focused hiring and continuous mentorship.
- Set a high standard for your team with strong technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship, balancing hands-on coding and architecture design.
- Ensure the successful business outcomes of your team by aligning engineering delivery with company objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Push for continuous improvements and innovation using data-driven decisions to optimize performance, reliability, and customer experience.
- Partner with other engineering leaders to build a cohesive engineering culture and direction for Valon across multiple teams.
- Leverage your experience in a highly complex and technical environment to navigate ambiguity and deliver robust, scalable solutions.
- Drive initiatives that transform mortgage servicing from a legacy process into a structured, programmable workflow within ValonOS.
- Utilize strong written and verbal communication skills to articulate vision, provide feedback, and coordinate priorities with stakeholders.
- Demonstrate excellent judgment, problem solving, and decision making to balance tradeoffs and keep projects on track.
- Apply inventive resource planning to maximize impact while managing constraints and competing demands.
- Contribute to company wide initiatives that establish engineering practices, standards, and learning opportunities.
- Support the development of tools and platforms that enable other teams to deliver value quickly and safely.
Requirements
- Tech Lead or Engineering Management experience preferred.
- At least 4+ years of software engineering experience.
- Demonstrated track record of building and empowering long lasting teams.
- Experience working in a highly complex and technical environment.
- Experience working in a fast paced and ambiguous startup environment.
- Passion for providing the biggest impact with inventive resource planning.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrates excellent judgment, problem solving, and decision making.
- Ability to thrive in a regulated industry where accuracy, reliability, and compliance are critical.
- Willingness to work closely with cross functional stakeholders including product, design, and operations.
- Commitment to building a diverse, high performing team through mentorship and inclusive leadership.
