About the role
As a Compliance & Controls Associate in the Auto Servicing division at Upstart, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that our operations adhere to regulatory standards and internal policies. What you'll do
- Conduct regular audits of auto servicing operations to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
- Develop and maintain compliance documentation, including policies, procedures, and training materials, to support the organization's compliance initiatives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify compliance risks and recommend appropriate controls to mitigate those risks effectively.
- Monitor changes in regulatory requirements and industry standards to ensure that Upstart's practices remain compliant and up-to-date.
- Assist in the preparation of reports for internal stakeholders and regulatory bodies, summarizing compliance activities and findings.
- Provide training and support to team members on compliance-related topics, fostering a culture of awareness and accountability.
- Investigate compliance incidents and breaches, documenting findings and recommending corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Support the development and implementation of compliance monitoring tools and metrics to track the effectiveness of compliance programs.
- Participate in compliance-related projects and initiatives, contributing to the continuous improvement of Upstart's compliance framework.
- Engage with external auditors and regulatory agencies during audits and examinations, providing necessary documentation and information.
- Assist in the development of risk assessments related to auto servicing operations, ensuring that potential compliance risks are identified and addressed.
- Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in compliance and controls, applying this knowledge to enhance Upstart's compliance efforts.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, law, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in compliance, risk management, or internal controls, preferably within the financial services or auto servicing industry.
- Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks applicable to auto servicing, including consumer protection laws and financial regulations.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to assess complex compliance issues and develop effective solutions.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint, with strong data analysis capabilities.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex compliance concepts to diverse audiences.
- Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to accuracy and thoroughness in all compliance-related activities.
Nice to have
- Certification in compliance or risk management (e.g., CRCM, CCEP, or similar).
- Experience with compliance management software or tools.
- Familiarity with auto finance products and services, including leasing and loan servicing.
- Previous experience working in a remote or distributed team environment.
- Knowledge of data privacy regulations and their implications for compliance.
