Sr. DevOps Engineer
Job description
About the role
The is tasked with spearheading a fundamental transformation in how the organization delivers technology solutions to the financial sector. This position owns the design and execution of enterprise-grade DevOps practices that serve as the critical bridge between development code and secure, reliable production infrastructure. You will architect the automation layers, platform resiliency, and deployment velocity necessary to support Unlimit's next phase of expansion and innovation. A core responsibility involves building the operational backbone that enables both human developers and AI agents to deploy changes safely, securely, and at global scale. You will establish the standards and tooling that ensure infrastructure is treated as code and deployments are predictable and auditable. This role requires strategic thinking to align complex technical implementations with strict financial compliance and business continuity requirements. Ultimately, you will own the systems that transform how Unlimit moves money and data across digital borders without friction.
The position is based in Belgrade and operates as a full-time engagement. The fixed annual compensation for this role is 60000 EUR.
What you'll do
- Architect and implement cloud foundations capable of supporting continuous, resilient transaction flows while meeting strict financial security and compliance expectations.
- Design, build, and maintain deployment pipelines where every build undergoes rigorous validation, testing, and approval stages before promotion to production environments.
- Orchestrate infrastructure through code using infrastructure-as-code principles to ensure environments remain traceable, consistent, and straightforward to audit for regulatory purposes.
- Coordinate closely with product teams and stakeholders to align release schedules, deployment strategies, and feature rollouts with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Automate monitoring, alerting, and observability tooling to guarantee complete service behavior visibility the instant anomalies, performance degradation, or security events occur.
- Guide the adoption and optimization of container platforms, including how services are packaged, scheduled, scaled, and managed across the distributed infrastructure.
- Implement robust backup, disaster recovery, and data integrity procedures that safeguard critical financial operations 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Collaborate with security engineers to embed compliance checks, security scans, and policy enforcement directly into deployment sequences and CI/CD workflows.
- Maintain living documentation that explains deployment paths, infrastructure topology, and operational procedures as the platform grows and evolves over time.
- Enable internal platforms and self-service tooling that allow developers to provision resources, manage environments, and deploy services without manual intervention, reducing friction in the delivery flow.
- Define and drive standard operating procedures for incident response, change management, and system reliability improvements across the engineering organization.
- Partner with site reliability and platform teams to optimize performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency of the production infrastructure running financial workloads.
- Evaluate, integrate, and optimize the core technology stack including container orchestration, networking, storage, and monitoring solutions.
- Act as a technical leader and mentor, sharing knowledge and best practices with cross-functional teams to elevate the overall engineering maturity of DevOps practices.
Requirements
- Hold a minimum of 3 years of professional experience managing infrastructure and deployment pipelines for production financial systems and regulated environments.
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of container orchestration platforms, networking concepts, and distributed systems principles in real-world implementations.
- Possess hands-on expertise with cloud provider services, scripting and programming languages, and infrastructure automation tools as they apply to financial services.
- Be highly proficient with version control systems, issue trackers, and collaborative code review processes essential for maintaining quality at scale.
- Show the ability to read complex configuration files, deployment scripts, and infrastructure definitions to diagnose problems quickly and accurately.
- Exhibit strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the patience to investigate subtle infrastructure issues that impact transaction integrity or system availability.
- Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating business requirements into precise infrastructure and deployment specifications.
- Maintain a strong commitment to security, compliance, and data integrity, understanding the implications of infrastructure changes on regulatory obligations.
Preferred Experience and Technical Skills
- Previous work experience within financial services, banking, payments, or other environments where uptime, data integrity, and regulatory compliance are critical.
- Direct experience with financial transaction processing systems, settlement workflows, or payment infrastructure is highly valued.
The core technical toolkit for this role includes Terraform, Kubernetes, Jenkins, Grafana, Prometheus, Python, Linux, and Git. Mastery of these technologies will allow you to construct and maintain the automated delivery pipelines that drive Unlimit's infrastructure and support its global operations. Experience with additional modern DevOps tools, cloud-native patterns, and observability platforms will further strengthen your ability to succeed in this position.
Strategic Impact
This position is central to Unlimit's evolution toward an AI-native financial infrastructure and the automation of financial services. You will create the deployment frameworks and operational platforms that allow new financial technology capabilities to reach Unlimit's global network at unprecedented speed and reliability. The systems you design and implement will support not only human operators but also AI agents acting autonomously on behalf of businesses. Your work will directly enable the company's mission to eliminate financial borders and establish the nervous system for a borderless global economy. By ensuring infrastructure is robust, observable, and programmable, you contribute to a future where businesses can operate anywhere without operational constraints. This role offers the opportunity to define standards for financial infrastructure at a critical inflection point in how digital economies operate.
