About the role
Twilio is on the lookout for an Engineering Manager to take charge of the Flex Billing & Backend team. What you'll do
- Lead and mentor a team of software engineers, fostering their professional development and ensuring their success within the organization.
- Supervise the design, development, and maintenance of robust, scalable distributed systems that operate in cloud environments.
- Advocate for agile methodologies, promoting practices such as continuous integration and automated testing to enhance team efficiency.
- Tackle intricate technical issues from the initial design stage through to ongoing service management, ensuring high standards are met.
- Clearly articulate technical concepts to various stakeholders, including product managers, architects, engineers, and support teams, facilitating effective collaboration.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve system performance and reliability, ensuring that the Flex platform meets customer expectations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align engineering efforts with business objectives, driving the successful delivery of projects.
- Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies to keep the team informed and competitive, integrating relevant advancements into the development process.
Requirements
- At least 10 years of overall experience in software engineering, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership capacity managing software development teams.
- Proven experience in overseeing multiple projects or workstreams simultaneously, demonstrating strong organizational skills.
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Strong expertise in REST APIs, Java or GoLang, and relational databases such as MySQL, along with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with SaaS telemetry and observability tools, including Datadog, Grafana, or Prometheus, is essential.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly.
- A solid understanding of development environments and tools necessary for code implementation and deployment.
- In-depth knowledge of agile methodologies, continuous integration practices, and a commitment to automation in software development.
- Demonstrated ability to distill complex situations into actionable plans, guiding teams towards effective solutions.
- Experience managing the complete lifecycle of services, from gathering requirements to operational monitoring and support.

- Previous experience in the contact center or customer engagement sector, providing valuable insights into industry-specific challenges.
- Experience in developing and delivering billing-related solutions, enhancing the team's capabilities in this area.
