Operations Lead for field data collection projects in the UK

About the role

You will coordinate and supervise a distributed team of field data collectors working across the United Kingdom to capture high quality multimedia data using vehicles, backpacks, mobile phones, and drones. You will own the day to day execution of assigned projects, ensuring that collection routes, schedules, and team assignments are followed precisely. You will manage the logistical aspects of field operations, including route planning, task allocation, and monitoring of data quality in real time. You will serve as the primary point of contact for field teams, supporting Project and Program Managers with planning, documentation, and on the ground problem solving. You will track team progress, verify that project specifications are met, and escalate any deviations or issues to senior management promptly. You will maintain accurate records of team activities, including hours worked, routes completed, and expenses incurred for each assignment. You will ensure that all field collection activities comply with local regulations, safety guidelines, and client requirements at all times. You will lead regular coordination meetings, provide clear instructions, and foster a collaborative environment focused on reliable data delivery.

What you'll do

Coordinate the deployment of field data collection teams across the United Kingdom for multiple concurrent projects.

Schedule and assign collection routes, tasks, and team members based on project priorities, deadlines, and resource availability.

Monitor the progress of field data collection activities in real time, verifying that routes, captures, and submissions meet defined standards.

Manage the allocation and tracking of expenses, timesheets, and logistical requirements for all field team members.

Support Project and Program Managers by preparing operational plans, status reports, and documentation needed for project tracking.

Liaise with local partners, stakeholders, and field crews to resolve operational issues and ensure smooth execution of tasks.

Perform quality checks on collected data, identify gaps or inconsistencies, and instruct teams on corrective actions when necessary.

Organize and facilitate coordination meetings, briefings, and debriefs to align teams and share operational updates effectively.

Maintain clear and concise communication with remote and on site teams, adapting your approach to different time zones and working conditions.

Ensure that all field operations adhere to safety protocols, local regulations, and client guidelines throughout the duration of projects.

Recruit, onboard, and provide ongoing guidance to new field data collectors joining UK based projects as required by operational needs.

Track and report on key performance indicators related to data collection timelines, coverage, accuracy, and team productivity.

Collaborate with technical and operations colleagues to integrate feedback and improve field processes, tools, and workflows.

Act as a escalation point for field level issues, taking ownership of problem diagnosis and coordination of timely solutions.

Requirements

Demonstrate strong coordination and management experience in field operations or related roles involving distributed teams.

Show excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey clear instructions to diverse teams.

Be highly responsible, organised, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast paced environment.

Have experience working with geographic data, mapping projects, or field data collection methodologies where applicable.

Be comfortable using mobile applications, mapping tools, and basic office software to manage tasks and reports.

Possess a valid driver's license and be willing to travel within the UK and internationally as project requirements dictate.

Be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to support project timelines and team coverage across time zones.

Understand and adhere to safety guidelines, legal requirements, and client policies relevant to field data collection activities.

Nice to have

Experience managing field teams in Europe or North America for data collection or similar operations.

Familiarity with 360 camera equipment, drone operations, and mobile data capture tools.

Knowledge of online mapping platforms and the workflows used to integrate field collected data.

Experience with expense tracking, timesheet management, and logistical coordination for remote teams.
