About the role
The is entrusted with leading the technical direction and execution of utility-scale battery energy storage systems and solar projects across the United States. This role owns the end-to-end technical workflow, ensuring that project design, installation, and commissioning align with strict regulatory and customer requirements. The hire will act as the key technical leader interfacing with Engineering, Procurement, and Construction partners to de-risk delivery and uphold project integrity. They will own the development and control of all technical documentation that governs how projects are built and operated. This position requires a proactive approach to solving complex engineering challenges while maintaining strict compliance with industry standards. The role is critical in translating strategic project goals into actionable and executable technical plans. Success in this position is measured by the on-time and on-budget delivery of technically sound energy infrastructure. The Senior Project Engineer will directly contribute to the growth and reliability of TransGrid's energy asset portfolio.

What you'll do
Investigate and lead the review of technical documentation including site studies, reports, and permits to assess design, cost, and schedule implications for energy storage and solar initiatives.
Scrutinize technical components of project contracts such as EPCA, Procurement Contracts, LTSA, PPA, and IA to ensure alignment with project objectives and risk management strategies.
Architect and maintain specifications, contracts, and a comprehensive document control structure to support current projects and future pipeline scalability.
Orchestrate workflows and interactions with third-party Owner's Engineers to guarantee cohesive project execution from inception to completion.
Create, review, and sustain detailed drawing packages, energy production models, bills of materials, and scopes of work to guide construction activities.
Oversee the technical facets of project development and design, encompassing conceptual and advanced system design while observing regulatory codes and customer mandates.
Implement and manage external resources including structural, civil, and electrical engineering consultants, geotechnical experts, topographic surveyors, and specialized suppliers.
Evaluate conceptual designs for ESS and solar projects, focusing on the selection of major components, equipment layouts, and single-line diagrams.
Prepare exhaustive bid packages for contractors featuring detailed scope of work, schedule, project descriptions, and conceptual design elements.
Lead technical preparations for EPC agreements, exhibits, and the assessment of potential project acquisition opportunities to safeguard asset value.
Supervise and conduct field activities such as site visits, testing, commissioning, and start-up procedures for constructed power plants to ensure operational readiness.
Collaborate with cross-functional team members to develop and deliver high-quality proposals that accurately define BESS and solar project solutions.
Coordinate with O&M providers to define and uphold technical requirements for battery and solar performance throughout the asset lifecycle.
Work closely with O&M and optimizer partners to track, monitor, and relay performance data to the Asset Management Team for continuous optimization.
Serve as the primary technical liaison with equipment vendors to negotiate specifications, resolve issues, and confirm delivery alignment.
Drive continuous improvements in project designs, plans, processes, and product development to enhance efficiency and reliability.
Lead and supervise testing, operational procedures, and maintenance activities for energy assets to ensure compliance and performance standards.
Manage technical obligations in strict accordance with Power Purchase Agreement terms to maintain contractual compliance and project integrity.
Coordinate internal and external resources to secure subject matter expertise and proactively reduce project risks.
Perform a diverse range of other duties and special projects as assigned to support organizational goals and project success.
Requirements
Candidates must hold a degree in Electrical Engineering to ensure a foundational understanding of power systems and design principles.
Applicants must bring a minimum of 7+ years of professional engineering experience specifically within the utility scale battery energy storage system and solar industry.
Relevant work experience must include the design and development of utility scale solar and battery storage power plants from concept to execution.
Proficiency with AutoCAD or equivalent software is mandatory for creating and interpreting technical drawings and system diagrams.
Experience with photovoltaic performance modeling tools is required to accurately predict energy output and system efficiency.
Experience with analysis tools for ESS operation is essential for optimizing battery performance and lifecycle management.
A thorough knowledge of the National Electric Code, NFPA standards, and IEEE regulations is non-negotiable for safety and compliance.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required to convey complex technical information to diverse stakeholders.
Candidates must demonstrate experience with Gantt charts using MS Project or equivalent tools for detailed project scheduling.
Strong proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite is expected for documentation, reporting, and cross-team collaboration.
Previous experience managing projects from initial design through installation and execution is preferred to ensure seamless project delivery.
