About the role
Torc Robotics is seeking a Software Engineer II to join the Fleet Enablement & Insights team. In this role, you will be instrumental in creating and managing the tools and data systems that enhance the efficiency of our fleet operations. You will play a key part in ensuring that the data collected is reliable and contributes to the development of our autonomous truck technology.

What you'll do
- Create and maintain Python-based tools and services that facilitate planning for fleet data collection and manage the data readiness pipeline for our autonomous trucking systems.
- Develop and enhance internal tools to automate processes such as route prioritization, data collection setup, asset tracking, and workflows for data ingestion, validation, and release.
- Generate fleet and data collection metrics, displaying them in real-time dashboards to identify quality issues during missions.
- Contribute to mapping tools that utilize simulation and topology evaluation to ensure mapping updates are validated prior to release.
- Oversee relational and spatial databases, ensuring data integrity, performance, and scalability across various datasets.
- Utilize AWS cloud services (including S3, Lambda, ECS, RDS) and Databricks to establish and deploy scalable data pipelines and analytics infrastructure.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams such as Fleet Operations, Mapping, Perception, Localization, and Data Annotation to align data collection efforts with the needs of downstream consumers.
- Engage in agile practices, including sprint planning and regular team syncs, to maintain clear communication and alignment on project objectives.
- Foster a culture of engineering excellence through code reviews, documentation, and knowledge sharing.
- Identify and resolve technical debt, performance issues, and reliability challenges in the fleet data collection and readiness systems.
Requirements
- Strong proficiency in Python, with a background in developing production-quality tools, scripts, and services.
- Solid experience with SQL for querying and analyzing both relational and analytical data.
- Familiarity with C++ and TypeScript, or the ability to quickly learn these languages for interfacing with vehicle and sensor code and developing internal tools.
- Expertise in databases, particularly PostgreSQL and SQLite.
- Experience with Databricks for handling large-scale data processing and managing data pipelines.
- Proven track record in building metrics, analytics, or reporting pipelines that convert raw operational data into actionable insights.
- Proficient in using Git and GitHub for version control and collaborative coding practices.
- Experience with project management tools like JIRA for tracking tasks and deliverables.
- Good understanding of software engineering principles, including data structures, algorithms, and system design.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent work experience.
Nice to have
- Experience with simulation systems for validating spatial, mapping, or sensor data.
- Familiarity with data visualization or dashboarding tools (e.g., Databricks dashboards, Plotly, Grafana) for operational metrics.
- Knowledge of PostGIS for advanced spatial queries and geospatial data management.
- Previous work with High-Definition (HD) maps and related map formats (e.g., OpenDRIVE, NDS, Lanelet2).
- Background in routing or optimization algorithms.
- Experience in autonomous vehicles or machine learning, particularly in how fleet data collection supports the machine learning process.
