About the role
Torc Robotics is seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to join our Scaled Simulation team. In this position, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining cloud-based simulation services that support virtual driver-stack testing and large-scale simulation tasks. Your work will be essential in enabling our autonomous vehicle testing workflows by creating reliable, scalable, and efficient simulation systems. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, robotics specialists, and vehicle testing engineers, to deliver high-quality simulation solutions. Key facts
What you'll do
- Design, develop, and implement cloud-based simulation services primarily using Python and C++ within a Linux environment, following Lean-Agile development practices to ensure rapid iteration and continuous improvement.
- Build and maintain scalable cloud infrastructure leveraging AWS managed services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, and others, with a focus on system reliability, scalability, and operational excellence.
- Develop infrastructure-as-code solutions using Terraform to automate cloud resource provisioning, configuration, and management, ensuring repeatability and version control of infrastructure setups.
- Document software design, architecture, and implementation details thoroughly, creating clear and maintainable code that adheres to industry standards.
- Follow established quality assurance processes, including safety and engineering guidelines, to ensure the software delivered is robust, reliable, and ready for deployment in safety-critical environments.
- Support vehicle testing and simulation workflows across various engineering use cases, including virtual testing, validation, and performance analysis.
- Conduct root cause analysis for issues encountered during simulations and testing, identifying underlying problems and implementing effective solutions.
- Automate deployment pipelines, simulation workflows, and data processing pipelines through CI/CD practices, reducing manual effort and minimizing errors.
- Implement and maintain automated testing frameworks to catch regressions early, ensuring that each software update maintains or improves system performance and stability.
- Participate actively in daily standup meetings to communicate progress, blockers, and next steps, fostering transparency and team coordination.
- Take ownership of assigned projects, demonstrating initiative, accountability, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Join an on-call rotation to support production systems, ensuring high availability and quick resolution of any operational issues.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-disciplinary teams, including hardware engineers, vehicle operators, and software developers, to align on project goals and deliverables.
- Communicate technical updates clearly and efficiently, providing support and guidance to team members and stakeholders.
- Drive tasks forward with minimal supervision, showing a strong sense of ownership and motivation to contribute to the team's success.
- Engage in continuous learning to stay current with cloud technologies, simulation methodologies, and best practices in software engineering.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with at least 7 years of relevant professional experience, or a Master's Degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience in software development, cloud services, or related areas.
- Proven experience designing, deploying, and managing managed cloud services, preferably on AWS, with a solid understanding of cloud architecture principles.
- Strong programming skills in Python, with a good grasp of software engineering best practices, including code review, testing, and documentation.
- Proficiency in Linux operating systems, scripting languages such as Bash, and experience working in Linux-based development environments.
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform, including writing, managing, and troubleshooting infrastructure configurations.
- Knowledge of modern software development practices such as continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD), automated testing, version control systems (e.g., Git), and containerization technologies.
- Excellent analytical and debugging skills, capable of troubleshooting complex issues in cloud and simulation environments.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, with strong communication skills to articulate technical concepts clearly.
- Experience supporting or developing simulation systems, especially in the context of autonomous vehicles or robotics, is a plus.
- Familiarity with software tools and frameworks used in robotics, such as ROS (Robot Operating System), is advantageous.
- Knowledge of C++ programming in production environments is beneficial but not mandatory.
- Understanding of robotics algorithms, simulation methodologies, and vehicle testing workflows is a plus.
Nice to have
- Experience working in autonomous vehicle development, robotics, or simulation technology sectors.
- Familiarity with Bazel build systems or other build automation tools.
- Prior experience with ROS (Robot Operating System) or similar robotics middleware.
- Knowledge of robotics algorithms, sensor integration, and vehicle perception systems.
- Experience working with large-scale cloud deployments, including monitoring and optimizing cloud infrastructure.
- Exposure to safety-critical software development processes and standards.

- The salary range for this position is $160,800 to $193,000 USD, depending on experience and qualifications.
