About the role
Torc Robotics is seeking a Safety Data Analyst to support the evaluation and enhancement of safety performance metrics for autonomous vehicle technology. This role involves analyzing complex safety data, developing analytical frameworks, and collaborating with various teams to ensure safety performance is accurately monitored, assessed, and communicated. The ideal candidate will play a key part in ensuring that safety standards are maintained and improved through data-driven insights, supporting Torc's mission to develop safe autonomous systems. The position requires a detail-oriented individual with strong analytical skills, experience working with large datasets, and the ability to translate technical findings into actionable recommendations. The Safety Data Analyst will work closely with engineering, safety, and product teams to ensure safety data is effectively utilized to support continuous improvement and compliance.

What you'll do
- Develop, refine, and implement safety performance metrics and targets to proactively identify safety risks and areas for improvement using both real-world operational data and simulation data.
- Utilize advanced statistical methods to evaluate safety performance, identify trends, and support decision-making processes related to safety management.
- Build and maintain automated workflows for ongoing safety data collection, analysis, and reporting to ensure timely insights and responses.
- Collaborate with engineering and safety teams to interpret safety data, ensuring that safety performance assessments accurately reflect real-world conditions and meet safety standards.
- Balance analytical thoroughness with the need for timely insights, especially in safety-critical situations where rapid decision-making is essential.
- Assess data quality, completeness, and limitations to ensure that safety insights are reliable, valid, and actionable.
- Design and develop data visualizations, dashboards, and reports to communicate safety performance insights clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Work with cross-functional teams to align safety data analysis with operational goals, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Document analytical workflows, methodologies, and findings to support transparency, reproducibility, and regulatory compliance.
- Share knowledge and best practices through peer reviews, code reviews, and documentation to promote continuous improvement in safety data analysis processes.
- Support safety incident investigations by providing data-driven insights and identifying root causes through detailed data analysis.
- Assist in the development of predictive models and risk assessment tools to anticipate safety issues before they occur.
- Stay current with industry best practices, statistical techniques, and emerging technologies relevant to safety data analysis in autonomous vehicle systems.
- Contribute to safety performance reports and presentations for internal leadership and external regulatory bodies as needed.
- Participate in safety reviews, audits, and validation activities to ensure data integrity and compliance with safety standards.
- Support the integration of new data sources and sensor systems into safety analysis workflows.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field, with 5+ years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree with 3+ years of experience; or a PhD with at least 1 year of relevant experience.
- Proven experience in vehicle engineering, autonomous systems, robotics, or related technical fields.
- Strong familiarity with vehicle sensor systems, cloud data platforms, and data management in large-scale environments.
- Proficiency in statistical analysis, data visualization, and data storytelling to communicate complex insights effectively.
- Hands-on experience with programming languages such as Python and SQL for data analysis and workflow automation.
- Knowledge of agile development practices and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) workflows.
- Ability to work with large, complex datasets, including time-series data and heterogeneous data types from various sensors and systems.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for conveying technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Experience working with distributed teams across different time zones, demonstrating flexibility and collaboration skills.
- Ability to adapt to evolving safety standards, technical requirements, and industry best practices.

- Experience applying statistical methods in engineering, physics, or related scientific disciplines.
- Knowledge of time-series analysis, uncertainty quantification, and reliability engineering principles.
- Background supporting decision-making processes for executives, regulatory agencies, or safety committees.
- Familiarity with simulation evaluation, safety-critical system validation, and verification processes.
- Experience with safety standards and regulatory compliance related to autonomous vehicle systems.
- Knowledge of machine learning techniques applicable to safety data analysis and predictive modeling.
Skills & tools
- Python, SQL, data visualization tools (such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar), statistical analysis software, and data management platforms.
- Experience with cloud data services (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) is a plus.
- Familiarity with version control systems like Git.
- Ability to develop and maintain automated data workflows and pipelines.

- The salary range for this role is between $126,100 and $151,300 USD, depending on experience and qualifications.
